It’s been written in the stars that two stand-out comic book character actors will come together for Ursa Major, an upcoming science-fiction thriller from the Baker Brothers. Xochitl Gomez (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Birds of PreyKate) are joining forces for the new project as a mother and daughter duo fighting to survive.

Jonathan and Josh Baker direct Ursa Major, featuring the story of Charlie (Winstead) and Natalie (Gomez), a mother and daughter pair of survivors trapped on a harsh Earth-like planet. As a deadly storm heads toward the planetoid, the duo avoids encroaching elements, crazed hunters, and more. While Natalie has always trusted her mother, she’s beginning to question the strategies they’ve used to survive and thinks it might be time to change who leads the charge.

The story for Ursa Major hails from an original script co-written by Station Eleven creator Patrick Somerville, Colleen O’Brien, and Katie French. In addition to co-writing the screenplay, Somerville produces with David Eisenberg via Tractor Beam. John Finnemore produces through Lost City, with Mason Novick for MXN Entertainment and Allen Fischer and Brian Steinberg for Artists First.

When she’s not punching holes in the Multiverse as America Chavez for Marvel Studios, Xochitl Gomez is on TikTok. Since the actress reactivated her account, she’s been racking up likes by giving Marvel fans a behind-the-scenes look at her MCU journey. Gomez also dominates the algorithm by tackling one trend after the next. Be sure to catch her antics on the platform.

Meanwhile, Mary Elizabeth Winstead is filming her part in the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ series Ahsoka, starring Rosario Dawson as the title character. Hayden Christensen, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Ray Stevenson, and Ivanna Sakhno also star. Winstead’s character in the show remains a mystery, though fans suspect she could play any of the following Star Wars legends: Ar’alani, Hera Syndulla, Doctor Aphra, Barriss Offee, or Mara Jade.
