Strike Back below!
by: Omar Aviles May. 11, 2009

Liv Tyler When last we heard from the Joseph Kahn directed NEUROMANCER, the big screen adaptation of William Gibson's groundbreaking science fiction novel, Hayden Christensen had signed on to star as protagonist Case, who's reckless hacking leads him to all kinds of trouble. Now "Production Weekly" is reporting that Liv Tyler is in talks to take an unspecified role in the film. Those of you familiar with the story, feel free to strike back who you think she could be playing. The story is, of course, much more complex and involved than simply a hacker who gets into trouble but recalling it here would take a day or two so look it up if you're curious. Tyler most recently signed on to the thriller 10A10B.

Extra Tidbit: One of her nicknames is "Liver".

I've read the book so...
I'm gonna agree with Stratburst, I'm about 90% sure that Tyler's being cast as Molly, which is a shame. Don't get my wrong, she's a talented actress, but this really seems like miscasting. If the film was actually coming from a talented director, I might have a little faith, but Joseph Kahn get's no "bennefit of the doubt" moments in my book.

Quick side note: Up until recently I ...

Quick side note: Up until recently I absolutely hated Hayden Christensen, then I saw him in Shattered Glass, and was amazed, he's actually a pretty decent actor when he's got a good script. Unfortunately, I highly doubt he's going to get that in this film. I really didn't think the book was as genius as some people, but I'd still like to see the film version done right.

Oh crap.
The only character Liv Tyler would be interested in is Molly Millions, and she is completely wrong for the role. If she's in, then this is gonna be another "Johnny Mnemonic," I can smell it.

My thoughts:

The director and Hayden are red flags to me, but the concept and Liv make me interested.

cool news.
Neuromancer was a standout book, Gibson is credited with first coining the word "cyberspace", and envisioning the depth of the internet into our daily lives. It opens IIRC with the line, the sky was the colour of television, tuned to a dead channel, or something like that (i havent re read it in years), but,i can only hope they dont do a "johnny mnemonic" on it, which probably put Hollywood off...

Please let this classic book be given the treatment it deserves, the whole "cyberpunk" genre stems from this i believe, and it needs a strong visual style to complement the story.

Chris Cunningham should be directing this. Not that hack Kahn.

BUT Cunningham remains an enigmatic persona, as he consistently turns down cool job ops.

I hope one day Cunningham directs an amazing feature.

Kahn is just gonna make a boring, typical flick out of this. He brings nothing cool to the table.
