Odeya Rush joins Jack Black in the Goosebumps adaptation

Feb. 14, 2014by: Jesse Giroux

Jack Black will be playing a R.L. Stine-like character named Mr. Shivers in Sony's big screen version of GOOSEBUMPS, and now we know who will be playing his niece. The Wrap has learned THE ODD LIFE OF TIMOTHY GREEN and WE ARE WHAT WE ARE star Odeya Rush (who also just finished shooting THE GIVER with Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep) has signed on for GOOSEBUMPS.

In the film Black's Mr. Shivers will be an author "whose scary characters literally leap off the page, forcing him to hide from his own creepy creations," and Rush will play his "quirky and mysterious niece, who teams up with her young male neighbor to battle the monsters unleashed from Mr. Shivers’ works." Jack Black will be re-teaming with his GULLIVER'S TRAVELS director Rob Letterman for GOOSEBUMPS.

No word on when filming is suppose to start or when GOOSEBUMPS will be released, but with Odeya Rush being cast in it, we could be hearing some more news on the project soon. I loved the books as a kid, and have really enjoyed Jack Black in previous movies, so I have my fingers crossed Sony and Rob Letterman won't do a shitty job with the adaptation.

Interesting...

I know the name Jack Black can sometimes drive people away from a film but when he puts an effort into it, he can surprise us (Tropic Thunder, Bernie & maybe School of Rock). That said, it does feel like sometimes he's doing it for the paychecks. Given that I loved Goosebumps books as a kid, I guess there's a reason to be excited but cautious at the same time.....

I will keep an eye on this one......

I loved these books as a kid and when I saw this article pop up I had to check it out. My first thought was I hope they make them darker and more adult since the audience for these books was my generation and I'm now 28. They probably won't but even a PG-13 adaptation could be alright.

Black = Bad

To bad Jack Black is attached to this, he is simply not very good. Then again, I think I may have outgrown Goosebumps long long ago....
