Jessica Lange will return for American Horror Story: Apocalypse

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

After completely owning every episode of the first four seasons of AMERICAN HORROR STORY Jessica Lange took a bit of a hiatus from the last few outings, but now she’s coming back to show everyone who’s boss in the ominously titled eighth season, “Apocalypse”. The news was broken by AHS mainstay Sarah Paulson at the show’s panel at TCA yesterday (via Deadline), where aside from Lange’s return being confirmed very little was revealed about the secretive eighth season.

Lange was there at the beginning of AHS during the very first season – “Murder House” – and then went on to have leading roles in the following seasons, “Asylum,” “Coven,” and “Freak Show.” She would go on to win a Golden Globe and two Emmys (to go along with her two Oscars, of course) for her work on the seasons, and then teamed with show creator Ryan Murphy once again for FEUD, playing Joan Crawford.

As well as the news regarding Lange it was also announced the show has, unsurprisingly, been renewed for season ten. We could begin to speculate where a tenth season would go, let alone a ninth, but we barely know anything about this upcoming season as everyone involved is keeping their mouths shut on the details.

“The story begins with the end of the world, and then our world begins,” said AHS EP Alexis Martin Woodall, which is basically like saying nothing.

Even Paulson had to stop herself from spilling the beans, saying, “It’s the end of the world. It’s the biggest – shit!” She stopped before going further, but ended it with, “It’s the apocalypse in the truest sense of the word.”

What we do know is that the show will be a crossover between the first and third seasons (“Murder House” and “Coven”), and will involve the anti-Christ, who was born during the first season. When it comes to the third season, Woodall said Murphy has “invited all of the witches to return.” Even though it can’t be confirmed if the likes of Emma Roberts, Taissa Farmiga and more would return to their roles from “Coven,” she said the “invitation is out there.”
