Band of Robbers trailer brings Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer to modern day

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The stories of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer have been done to death, so, when a filmmaker comes along and wants to do something different with them, I'm all for it. That's what makes a movie like BAND OF ROBBERS look so appealing. It takes everything you wouldn't expect from a film using those characters and then builds the story around it.

Huck Finn as an ex-con? Tom Sawyer as a crooked cop? All of this happening in the modern world with a search for treasure at the center of the movie? The film played well at its Los Angeles Film Festival premiere, with our own Jimmy O counting himself a big fan. Might be worth a watch to see something unique done with a classic. Sure beats watching the same old thing all the time.

Mark Twain’s young heroes Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn spring vividly back to life, this time as modern-day grown men. When Huck is released from prison he hopes to leave his criminal past behind. But his lifelong friend and corrupt cop, Tom, has other plans, having formed the Band of Robbers, a group of misfits dedicated to locating the hidden treasure that eluded the boys in childhood.

BAND OF ROBBERS arrives in select theaters and on VOD on January 15, 2016.
