Black Adam producer promises to push PG-13 rating with a high body count

Black Adam, body count, PG-13

DC’s Black Adam is one of several high-profile releases we can expect from Dwayne Johnson and after early footage was unveiled during DC FanDome, fans became even more hyped for its release. In a bid to build even more interest, the film’s producer, Hiram Garcia, is revealing that the film will push the bounds of its PG-13 with a high body count.

While speaking with CBR, Garcia compared the film’s PG-13 rating to that of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, which pushed the limits of what you could do without going R and that’s something they are aiming to do with Black Adam. Garcia went on to mention that film has “a very high body count”, which could be at the hands of Black Adam or of the supporting cast in the film. Here is what he had to say:

“Black Adam is edgy, right? That’s gonna be a PG-13 movie where it was very much like, say, The Dark Knight, where that pushed the edges of PG-13. I think we do that very much with Black Adam. We have a very high kill count in our movie.”

I think some of these comic book films do push the bounds of their PG-13 ratings. The Dark Knight is a solid example of this because I know for myself when I watch that film I feel like I’m watching something that is much harder and it’s not until it’s pointed out to me again that it’s actually PG-13 that I realize it. If Black Adam goes this route and does it right, we could be in for something good here.

Black Adam is a DC Comics character that started as the archenemy of Captain Marvel, later named Shazam! The character is an Egyptian prince who was chosen by the wizard Shazam! to be his champion until the power corrupted him. Due to that corruption, Black Adam was chained up and sealed away for millennia but is released in present times with a thirst for vengeance. The character received a more sympathetic back story in later comics that turned him into more of an anti-hero. Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and, in addition to Johnson, the film also stars Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Quintessa Swindell, Marwan Kenzari, and Sarah Shai.

What are YOUR thoughts on Black Adam‘s body count pushing the bounds of its PG-13 rating?
