Bobcat Goldthwait is hunting bigfoot in new found footage film Willow Creek

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Over the past few years we’ve seen a handful of Bigfoot-themed found footage film hit the marketplace, including EXISTS, THE LOST COAST TAPES, THE WOODSMAN and BIGFOOT COUNTY, and now we have news on another flick to throw into the subgenre and this one will most certainly raise some eyebrows.

Comedian-turned-director Bobcat Goldthwait has almost completed a new film entitled WILLOW CREEK which is evidently a found-footage movie that centers around the existence (or lack thereof) of Bigfoot. Intrigued yet?

Goldthwait has become quite the prolific filmmaker, delivering some quality films with the biting satire GOD BLESS AMERICA and the Robin Williams-starring WORLD’S GREATEST DAD, but has shown interest in dabbling in the horror genre in the past. Before tackling WILLOW CREEK, Goldthwait had toyed with the idea of dipping his toe into our beloved genre, stating just last year…

I thought I was doing a horror picture [called ANKLEBITERS] next but I have a feeling that’s going to be left until next year. Though because I really do have to make a movie, I think my next film might be a found footage movie. Though, unfortunately, that’s been rather played out…

Played out, certainly. But Goldthwait has a unique voice and his take on the subgenre should prove to be interesting. For his take on the subject, Goldthwait’s film ”is apparently rather driven by exploring the idea of bearing witness.”

Word surrounding WILLOW CREEK states that multiple characters in the film claim to have seen the mysterious beast and that their different accounts provide a source of conflict. Evidently that turns into an opportunity to make “some observations on faith and religion.”

The film was shot in a very short amount of time, and mostly in sequence, with some parts right where the infamous Patterson-Gimlin bigfoot film was captured in California, while Goldthwait had a gap in his schedule. Apparently his goal is to mix some satire with his suspense, and we wouldn’t expect anything less from the director.

Hopefully we’ll be hearing more on this film soon as I, for one, cannot wait to see what Bobcat has in store for us with WILLOW CREEK.
