Boy Meets World cast says Ben Savage “ghosted” them

Danielle Fishel and Will Friedle says former Boy Meets World co-star Ben Savage has made no contact with them in three years.

Boy Meets World

Boy Meets World would be nothing without the boy himself, Ben Savage – but apparently that’s exactly what it has turned into, as his former cast members are claiming that Savage pulled a Mr. Turner and just up and vanished from their lives.

In a new Variety piece, Boy Meets World stars Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter), Danielle Fishel (Topanga Lawrence-Matthews) and Will Friedle (Eric Matthews) – who co-host the rewatch podcast Pod Meets World, which Savage is not a part of – reflected on the estrangement from the former Cory Matthews. (Notably, Strong did not comment on this particular matter, suggesting it might be especially stinging for him.)

As Fishel put it regarding his beginning to distance himself, “He was very adamant that [the podcast] was not for him…He was also very clear, ‘I don’t want it to stop you. If you guys want to do it, go ahead.’ The time between those conversations and the time we actually started the podcast was a significant amount of time…We were just so, so close, especially during [the birth of her son]. He was checking in with me regularly…[Then] he ghosted us.” Cory and Topanga would get married in the final season of Boy Meets World.

Friedle, who played Savage’s older brother on Boy Meets World, made numerous attempts to get in contact with Savage but has failed to reconnect or learned a reason why. “He disappeared — I wish I knew why, to this day…We didn’t have a fight. There’s no falling out. There was no animosity. He just woke up one day, and decided I don’t want this person in my life anymore…I finally sent a text saying, ‘I’ve known you for 30 years, what’s going on?’” Friedle continues. “I said, ‘I’m gonna call you every day until you tell me not to call you anymore.’ That lasted about three weeks or a month, every single day.”

While Ben Savage has apparently scrubbed his former Boy Meets World co-stars from his life, he might want to reconsider how he works his public image, as he is currently running for congress in California.
