Captain America: Brave New World reportedly scheduling reshoots after poor test screenings

After moving to 2025, Captain America: Brave New World is reportedly scheduling reshoots after a poor performance at test screenings.

Captain America: Brave New World, reshoots, MCU, delay

On Thursday, Walt Disney Studios confirmed release date shuffles for several Marvel Studios projects, including Deadpool 3ThunderboltsBlade, and Captain America: Brave New World. While not surprising given that Hollywood is scrambling to recover from delays due to the recently ended actors’ strike, the move pushes multiple films onto a shocking timeline. Following the delays, Jeff Sneider and John Rocha assembled on The Hot Mic podcast to inform fans about more distressing developments. According to Sneider, Brave New World is moving to 2025 because the project requires extensive reshoots.

“What we’re hearing is that Captain America is moving to 2025,” Sneider told Rocha. “There was an idea that because Cap 4 was finished,” Sneider said while using air quotes. “Here’s the exclusive stuff! I’m told that Captain America 4 did not do great in test screenings.” After an audible gasp from Rocha, Sneider continued, “Three sequences are being cut, and reshoots are being planned from January until May or June.”

“So, it did finish production, and it could have gone ahead of Deadpool 3,” Rocha clarifies. “But now, because of these changes it is now being pushed back. Is that what you’re essentially saying?” “Yeah,” Sneider confirmed. “That’s why it’s getting a year-long delay, basically.”

While Disney CEO Bob Iger recently said the studio plans to cut back on its amount of Marvel content, I doubt this is what the studio had in mind. As trendsetters in the blockbuster cinematic landscape, Marvel Studios is under tremendous pressure to regain steam in a post-Avengers: Endgame market. A section of Marvel fans say the studio lost its way after Tony Stark sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos, with feelings of confusion about the MCU’s future haunting the comic label’s recent efforts.

Thankfully, things are looking up after glowing responses to this week’s Season 2 finale of the Disney+ series Loki and positive word-of-mouth about The Marvels starting to spread. Despite a weak box office start for The Marvels, the ensemble-driven sequel to 2019’s Captain Marvel, the film may have long legs at the box office after fans join the bandwagon.

What do you think about Captain America: Brave New World getting delayed to 2025? How do you feel about the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Let us know in the comments section below.
