CBS brings back Sunday night movies beginning with Raiders of the Lost Ark

CBS is doing their part while we quarantine by bringing back an old staple of its programming lineup to give us more to watch while we self-isolate. The network has announced the return of its Sunday movie tradition, which was a mainstay for years up until about 15 years ago.

CBS will air a series of classic blockbuster hits produced by Paramount Pictures every Sunday night throughout the month of May, beginning with the Steven Spielberg classic RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Sunday Night at the Movies, will also include other fan favorites such as FORREST GUMP, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, TITANIC & INDIANA JONES & THE LAST CRUSADE.

Theatrical movies have not been a mainstay on network television in quite some time because of the rise of cable and streaming services. That being said, giving what's going on in the world right now with COVID-19, a lot of productions in the world of film and TV have gone dark so this is going to provide a major interruption on the programming side for many networks, which will leave them with holes in the schedule to fill. CBS is hoping this tradition for the past will be the right choice to fill that void as they map out the rest of their schedule.

I think this is a good idea. Even if you aren't inclined to want to watch a movie on network TV, it just provides us another option for something to watch as we navigate a pretty uncertain time. I'm all for a good throwback and I'm sure one of these film choices will have families gathered around the television to check them out.

Will YOU catch Sunday Night at the Movies on CBS? The tradition kicks off once again with. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK on May 3, 2020.
