Christopher Lloyd down for Back to the Future Part IV

Christopher Lloyd is ready for a fourth Back to the Future, although he seems aware that most of the other key players aren’t game.

Where Christopher Lloyd wants to go, he may not need roads, but he’ll need a whole lot of people on board. Christopher Lloyd has announced that he is ready to go back to Back to the Future, saying he would love to bring back Emmett “Doc” Brown one more time.

Chrisopher Lloyd, who is now 84 (placing him in his mid-40s for the first Back to the Future), recently told Variety, “I would love to do a sequel, but I think Bob Zemeckis and [producer Steven] Spielberg felt that they told the story in the three episodes…But if somebody has a brilliant idea that would justify a fourth film it might happen.” Lloyd added that he thinks he and Michael J. Fox could easily groove back into the roles, saying, “There was a certain ease between us…I didn’t have to struggle to get there with Michael. There was never any conflict. It just fit. And it’s never stopped. I feel like we could go and do it again after all these years and not have to think about the relationship between Marty and Doc.”

Not surprisingly, Michael J. Fox has little interest in hopping back into the Back to the Future franchise, despite Christopher Lloyd’s curiosity. Speaking with Variety, Fox said he has basically gotten a fourth installment out of his mind. “I’m sure somebody thought about it…But I was in the early stages of Parkinson’s at that point, so I don’t know that I would have wanted to take that on. Right after Part Three had done well, there might have been conversations about it, but I never got involved in them…I think Bob [Zemeckis] and Bob [Gale, co-writer and co-producer] have been really smart about that. I don’t think it needs rebooting because are you going to clarify something? You’re going to find a better way to tell the story? I doubt it.” And so, no, it doesn’t seem like we’ll ever get Back to the Future Part IV, meaning fans will have to be happy with the occasional cast reunion.

Christopher Lloyd has reprised Brown numerous times, including for an episodic Back to the Future video game, a slot machine and two Universal Studios rides: Back to the Future: The Ride and The Simpsons Ride, a cheeky cameo considering it actually replaced the beloved BTTF simulator.

Should Christopher Lloyd try to get the DeLorean back on the road for another Back to the Future? Or should he maybe consider smaller reprisals, like a Super Bowl commercial? Give us your take in the comments section below!
