Chucky in Space? Don Mancini thinks it would be a fun movie

During an interview on Adam Green and Joe Lynch’s podcast The Movie Crypt back in 2017, Child’s Play / Chucky franchise writer Don Mancini mentioned that he had an idea for “Chucky in Space” – and while promoting the Chucky TV series (which airs on both Syfy and USA Network on Tuesday nights) in an interview with ComicBook.com‘s Spencer Perry, Mancini brought up the idea again.

On The Movie Crypt, Mancini started to discuss the set-up before the conversation moved on. He said,

You know how sometimes kids will present a space shuttle crew with some totemic experiment or mascot or whatever, Chucky…

In the ComicBook.com interview, Mancini said,

I think one of the great things about Chucky is that he’s such a versatile character and we’ve found that he operates successfully in all kinds of different tones and sub-genres, whether it’s horror, or comedy, places in between. So I think as a character he’s versatile enough and appealing enough and interesting enough that he could probably go anywhere, even into outer space. Which is the one thing – I think once I jokingly said something about sending Chucky into space, although I do think it would be a fun movie. … I think ‘X Goes to Space’ is usually a barometer for jumping the shark. But I mean, who wouldn’t want to see Chucky in a little space suit with a helmet, sort of like floating?”

Jason Voorhees, Leprechaun, and Pinhead have all gone to space in their franchises (and the Fast & Furious franchise recently did it, too), so why not Chucky?

Mancini also mentioned that he’s “into the idea” of a Freddy vs. Chucky crossover, but the problem is that Chucky is at Universal and Freddy is at New Line Cinema. Freddy is definitely the other horror icon Mancini is most interested in seeing Chucky cross paths with, but there are plenty at Universal he could choose from as alternatives, from classic Universal Monsters to Michael Myers. In fact, Universal already put Chucky and Michael Myers in the same room for a recent ad that promotes both Chucky and Halloween Kills.
