Welcome to the latest edition of The Best Movie You Never Saw, released under our Revisited banner. Today we’re looking at 2012’s Cloud Atlas, directed by Lana and Lily Wachowski plus Tom Tykwer.

Cloud Atlas was a generation-spanning omnibus that blew a lot of minds when it was initially released. The cerebral epic tried to do something distinct and different with the sci-fi genre, just as the Wachowski’s had done thirteen years previously with The Matrix. Based on the novel by David Mitchell and boasting a cast that included Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, and more – all in multiple roles – the movie flopped at the box office, grossing a mere $27.1 million at the domestic box office on a reported $128.5 million budget.

Despite its initial financial failure, the film has since managed to gain something of a cult following. Sometimes with movies like this, time is their best friend and that’s why we want you to join us as we dig into this underrated epic on this edition of The Best Movie You Never Saw!
