Cloud Atlas is one of Tom Hanks’ top 3 Tom Hanks movies

Tom Hanks speaks the true-true. The actor has appeared in many classic movies throughout his career and if you ask someone to pick their top three Tom Hanks movies, chances are good that each person will come up with three different answers. But what are Tom Hanks’ top three Tom Hanks movies? While speaking on the Bill Simmons podcast, Tom Hanks was asked to pick his three favourites, and one just so happens to be one of my favourites as well: Cloud Atlas.

Directed by the Wachowski’s and Tom Tykwer, Cloud Atlas spanned multiple timelines and hundreds of years with actors such as Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Jim Broadbent, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Hugh Grant, and more playing multiple roles. It’s definitely not for everyone, but it’s one hell of an experience. Tom Hanks described his time making the film as a magical.

We shot [‘Cloud Atlas’] on a hope and a dream and nothing but a circle of love… That was the first time I’d ever shot extensively in Germany and I was surrounded by history. But the work itself, we were part of this big, massive ensemble of fantastic people who were just trying to do the hardest, best work on a deep throw… that whole movie was such a deep throw that making it was magical, and I had a lot of my family come over, and we all saw Berlin.

If you couldn’t tell, Tom Hanks decided to make his list based on the personal experience he had while doing them. As for the other two movies, Tom Hanks picked A League of Their Own and Cast Away to stand alongside Cloud Atlas. A League of Their Own gave Hanks the excuse to play baseball all summer and Cast Away was a wonderful vacation in Fiji. “We just had bold adventures when making that movie,” Hanks said. “We were out in the middle of the ocean trying to grab shots. We were out in Fiji and my whole family was with me. Nothing but adventures every single day.“
