NBC's "Constantine" is headed towards its season finale and there have been rumors that the low-rated series could possibly move to SyFy for a second season with the title "Hellblazer", though showrunner Daniel Cerone hasn't given any indication that the move is happening, stating that those kinds of decisions, if they're being made, are being made above his pay grade in the NBC Universal office suites, so we'll have to wait for a confirmation. Now star Matt Ryan has spoken with about the challenges and thrills of playing John Constantine and what he'd like to bring in from the comics if the show gets a second season, whereever that may be.

Ryan shared that he'd love to see the series tackle "The Family Man" arc from the "Hellblazer" comics. That storyline finds John drawn into a confrontation with a serial killer who specializes in murdering entire families. Ryan shared…

…My favorite arc from the comics is the "Dangerous Habits" arc, and I don't think that would be Season Two, I think that would be further down the line but that's something that I would really love to get to. It's my favorite run of the comics.

I also love, and what could be a possibility for Season Two I think, is the Family Man arc. What I like about that is, it's not John dealing with demons and devils, it's him dealing with human beings and I think that's a very interesting place for John. I think there's actually a line in the comic where he says, "Demons, devils I'm fine with, but the real life, the real problems that human beings have…"

I think that's quite an interesting storyline that could be done over a few episodes or something, you know? That's something I'd like to explore as well. I mean, there's so much there, man. That's the great thing about this job, this gig and the source material. There's so much there that every time you pick up a comic, you're thinking about how well it can be translatedf to screen.

As for the layered storylines presented in the first season of "Constantine", Ryan says there's so much more that the series can bring to the fold, stating…

I think we're actually just skimming the surface. That's the great thing about it. The source material, there's so much we can do with it and the potential is so huge. So we hope as well that we get a second season and we can continue to do that.

And what of Guillermo del Toro's JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK (aka DARK UNIVERSE)? It was recently revealed that the character of John Constantine will be included in the film, and the question is whether Ryan's Constantine will crossover to the film. Ryan addressed that, stating…

Honestly, I don't really pay that much attention to it. I try to just be in the moment to take what's right in front of me. Obviously there's talk of a movie and stuff, and those are all interesting things, but I try not to think too far ahead, really. Especially in this business, you can't endgame too much. You have to focus on the work and try to enjoy yourself.

Granted, I haven't watched all of the episodes of "Constantine" aired so far, but what I have seen I have thoroughly enjoyed. I'd like to play catch-up on the first season soon to see what I've missed. I've heard mixed reviews, but I certainly think Ryan has the look and mannerisms of John Constantine down pat. It would be great to see him continue playing the character, so here's hoping "Constantine" gets a second season.
