David Hasselhoff wants to do a gritty, R-rated Knight Rider film like Logan

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Being born too late, I never got into 80s kitsch shows like MANIMAL or KNIGHT RIDER, and only know them through cultural osmosis and parodies. But that doesn't mean the ideas can't come back and be reworked for modern audiences. I mean, it crashed and burned when they tried that ten years ago, but third time's a charm right?

That's what original star David Hasselhoff is hoping for. He talked to CinemaBlend about approaching Robert Rodriguez about a gritty, R-rated reboot. Here's what he had to say:

I have met Robert Rodriguez. He does Dusk til Dawn and Machete. And I said 'You need to do Knight Rider.' Because he was doing a marathon of Knight Riders and he said 'Can we have a selfie!?' And I said, 'No, I don't want a selfie! I want to do the movie! I want to shoot the TV series! I want to bring it back and make it dark! Michael Knight comes back and he's pissed.' … I hope it happens, and if it does, it'll be kind of like Logan. It will be dark. Hasselhoff as Michael Knight in 2017. Knight Rider. The saga continues.

Obviously, that’s a hard sell, and most likely won’t happen. But, more interestingly, is the fact that there seems to be a Machinima webseries in the works from FAST AND THE FURIOUS’s Justin Lin, which Hasselhoff later alluded to being involved in.
Maybe he might get what he wants after all? We’ll see.

So what about you Schmoes? You down for another KNIGHT RIDER reboot? Either way, sound off below!
