Before Brandon Routh's SUPERMAN RETURNS and Henry Cavill's MAN OF STEEL, there was Nicolas Cage's SUPERMAN LIVES…kind of. I'm sure by now most of you know about the doomed Tim Burton movie, and have seen a few images online of Cage in costume, as well as some concept art from the unfinished film.

Earlier this year we learned Metalocalypse director Jon Schnepp was using Kickstarter to fund a documentary about SUPERMAN LIVES called THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN LIVES: WHAT HAPPENED? and now Schnepp has released the first trailer for the project. The documentary will feature interviews with most of the cast and crew from SUPERMAN LIVES, including director Tim Burton and Kevin Smith, who wrote the original script for the canceled movie. Although it doesn't look like Nicolas Cage was involved with the documentary, he has previously said his portrayal of Superman would have been "gutsy." While the interviews are featured heavily in the trailer, there's also a pretty sweet special effects test of Nicolas Cage's Superman flying and landing.

If you're a huge Superman fan, or if you're just fascinated with the failed project itself, I think you'll definitely want to check out this trailer for THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN LIVES: WHAT HAPPENED?
