13 Fanboy

We're currently making our way through the longest gap between FRIDAY THE 13TH movies that has gone by since the franchise began almost 40 years ago. It's already been 10 years since the reboot came out and there's no word on what progress, if any, producers Vertigo Entertainment and LeBron James are making toward getting a new film into production. So while we wait around for Jason Voorhees to make his return, a group of people who have worked on previous FRIDAY THE 13TH films are joining together to bring fans of the series something special: a new film called 13 FANBOY.

Set to be directed by FRIDAY THE 13TH: A NEW BEGINNING cast member Deborah Voorhees (whose character doesn't make it all the way through that movie) from a script she has written with producer Joel Paul Reisig, 13 FANBOY will bring

your favorite Friday the 13th actors back to the big screen in an entirely new horror series about a fan, who takes his love for the series too far and targets the real-life women from the franchise to kill them like they were killed in the Friday films or "improve" their deaths.

Voorhees plans to mix slasher-style kills, which will be accomplished with the use of practical effects and no CGI, with heart-pounding thrills. She will be appearing in the film alongside fellow FRIDAY THE 13TH veterans Kane Hodder, C.J. Graham, Thom Mathews, Judie Aronson, Tracie Savage, Jennifer Banko, Ron Sloan, and Carol Locatell, as well as Andrew Leighty and Vincente DiSanti from the fan film Never Hike Alone. The song "Victim" by Ari Lehman's band First Jason will be included on the soundtrack.

13 FANBOY will also serve as the introduction of actress Hayley Reece Greenbauer in one of the lead roles.

The official synopsis:

As a child, Kelsie witnesses the murder of her grandmother, a Friday the 13th actress, at the hands of a crazy fanboy. As an adult, she discovers her grandmother isn't the only victim and finds herself battling to save the life of her grandmother's best friend, also an actress from Friday the 13th, only to find she is now being targeted by the killer. But who is the killer? So many suspects, including the man lying beside her.

Voorhees explained the inspiration for the idea:

Horror fans are the best, but every once in a while, you get that one that feels scary. I've received texts saying, 'I'm watching you right now,' or 'wouldn’t it be cool if you were killed like you died in the film?'

The thought of a fan carrying through with that sort of weirdness troubled Voorhees so much that,

after several sleepless nights, I realized that if it scared me this much, it would scare others too. I had been looking for a film for horror fans for a while. It just feels like it is the time for this film."

13 FANBOY has been funded through a successful Indiegogo campaign that is now "INDEMAND" so it's still open to contributions.

While this won't fully make up for the lack of a new FRIDAY THE 13TH, it does sound like it will be something fun for fans to watch.
