FX reveals Professor X in a psychedelic trailer for Legion’s final season

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

After delivering two stellar seasons of mind-manipulating mutant madness, FX has debuted a psychedelic new trailer for the final season of LEGION. The new footage will serve as something of a wet dream for fairy tale fans, as the show looks to be borrowing much from Lewis Caroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, with Aubrey Plaza's deranged Lenny Busker arriving as a silver-tongued Mad Hatter. As we venture deeper down the rabbit hole of the new footage, we also find David Haller's father, Professor Charles Xavier, overstimulated by the awesome power of Cerebro, his personal mutant location device.

At the close of Season 2, David (Dan Stevens) had become the villain of his own story, after being deemed dangerous and unstable by the same family of mutants and otherwise who promised to help him control his powers. Before credits rolled on the final episode, David and Lenny teleported away from those wishing to do them harm, only to find themselves surrounded by cult followers. Convinced that he's the savior of mankind, David rebels against those hoping to stabilize his abilities, thereby leaving the group with no choice but to join forces with the Shadow King/Amal Farouk, to tame David before he can trigger the end of the world as we know it. As you can see from the trailer above, reigning David in will not be an easy task, as the Omega-level mutant has recently learned how to travel through time, a gift that allows him to thwart his own death, time and again.

GAME OF THRONES alum Harry Lloyd will play David's psychic father, Professor X, for the final season, which is set to premiere on FX Monday, May 24.

Personally, I've been climbing the walls for this third and final season since the show was renewed for one more wild ride in June of 2018. For me, LEGION has been the best comic book-related show to hit television thus far, and that includes any of Netflix's Marvel offerings as well. While I might have lost a few of you with that last proclamation, just remember that everyone is entitled to their own informed opinion, and if you disagree that's perfectly okay. In the time that LEGION has been on the air, I've never seen a comics show go to the weird and wild places that LEGION often does. The show is a visual and audio assault on the senses, with some truly inspired performances to boot. How Aubrey Plaza never received a nomination for her part as Lenny I'll never know. Here's hoping for a fitting end to the series, which has never failed to deliver the goods since its original February 2017 debut.
