Trailer for new The Godfather Part III cut unveils December 8 release

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Many of you who have seen THE GODFATHER PART III likely consider the prospect of a longer director's cut to be an offer you could refuse. But, with Francis Ford Coppola re-editing the final entry in his gangster trilogy to match his vision for the Corleone saga, this new movie is going to pull you back in.

In advance of the December 8th release of THE GODFATHER CODA, we now have a trailer that teases the changes Coppola has made to what has long been considered the weakest film in the trilogy.

Titled Mario Puzo’s THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone, the new version presents Coppola and screenwriter Puzo’s original vision for the finale, which has been meticulously restored for the finest presentation of the Corleone saga’s last chapter. The upcoming release, which is arguably one of the most anticipated of the year for some, will be available on Blu-ray & Digital on December 8 from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Here's the official synopsis:

Mario Puzo’s THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone follows Michael Corleone, now in his 60s, as he seeks to free his family from crime and find a suitable successor to his empire.

In order to create this re-imagining of the classic crime series finale, Coppola and his production company American Zoetrope explored a 4K scan of the original negative to tackle a meticulous, frame-by-frame restoration of both the new Mario Puzo’s THE GODFATHER, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone and the original The Godfather: Part III. To make certain that they achieved the best version possible, Coppola and others involved took more than six months to paw through 300 cartons of negative film. Then, like a group of cinematic surgeons, American Zoetrope got right in there to repair scratches, stains, and other anomalies that could not be addressed previously due to technology constraints. Additionally, the team also made enhancements to the film's original 5.1 audio mixes, making for a better auditory experience overall.
