HOME SWEET HOME ALONE (2021): Awfully Good Movies

Merry Christmas you filthy animals

HOME SWEET HOME ALONE (2021)

DIRECTOR: Dan Mazer CAST: Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Archie Yates

Merry Christmas, you filthy animals, and what better way for Awfully Good Movies to close out this crazy year than by reviewing its third Home Alone sequel which many cite as one of the worst films of this past year: HOME SWEET HOME ALONE!

Yes, who better to bring this holiday favorite back for the 2020s than your friends at Disney, after they bought up 20th Century Fox and got to making a sixth Home Alone exclusively streaming on Disney+. But don’t expect them to spend any of that MANDALORIAN money on this movie, because the most this sequel offers is a plot twist that has the house robbing husband and wife (Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney) serve as sympathetic characters trying to rob an abandoned British boy (Archie Yates of JOJO RABBIT) of a valuable doll which can help save their family from losing their home.

Outside of that, and a cameo from Devin Ratray returning as the adult Buzz McAllister (look, Culkin said no, okay?), this flick is another disgrace to Home Alone‘s sweet Christmas spirit and expertly staged gags that not even a talented cast can save from the furnace. I would say John Hughes is spinning in his grave, but I’m pretty sure all these bad sequels to Home Alone and National Lampoon’s Vacation are what drove him to death in the first place. Buzz, this movie–WOOF!

And which of these Awfully Good Movies episodes would you like in your stocking, boys and girls?
