Chris Pratt says Jurassic World 2 is scarier, darker, unexpected

"Scary", or "scarier" when the film is being compared to its immediate predecessor, are words that people involved with the production of JURASSIC WORLD 2 (not the official title) keep using to describe the next sequel in the JURASSIC PARK franchise. Which doesn't really come as a surprise, given that the movie is being directed by THE ORPHANAGE's J.A. Bayona.

JURASSIC WORLD director Colin Trevorrow, who is still involved with JURASSIC WORLD 2 as producer and has written the screenplay with Derek Connolly, started this "scary" talk back in October, when he said the sequel will be "more suspenseful and scary", as it was built around Bayona's skill set.

Bayona confirmed the scariness soon after, in an interview with Noticias RCN:

It will be darker and scarier then the previous film. Obviously when you have Chris Pratt it will also be very funny. But it will be darker. It is a second step in a trilogy, and the second step is always dark, as in 'The Empire Strikes Back' or 'The Wrath of Khan', which are the examples you always get.

The film takes the story where it has never been before. To me it surprised me. We are going to places where the saga has never been before, and at the same time we are paying tribute to the franchise. We will take it a step further. There are things that will happen that people are not expecting and they really are shocking."

Now the film's star Chris Pratt, who is currently doing the press rounds for GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, has echoed the comments made by Trevorrow and Bayona. When asked about JURASSIC WORLD 2 by Screen Rant, Pratt replied,

Aw man, J.A. Bayona? Do you know that filmmaker? He’s a remarkable filmmaker. If you haven’t seen The Impossible or A Monster Calls, I mean he’s really visually masterful. Deep emotions and suspense. I think it’s going to be a scarier version. A little bit darker and will continue to expand and carry the story forward in a way that is really unexpected and you wouldn’t have imagined."

These guys are all saying the same things, but I like that they're all saying that the sequel will be scarier, darker, and more suspenseful. I'm also intrigued by these claims that the film will be doing things that are "really unexpected" and "shocking". What will be so surprising?

Dinos with guns?

Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are reprising their JURASSIC WORLD roles in part 2. Their co-stars this time around include Daniella Pineda, Toby Jones, Rafe Spall, Justice Smith, Ted Levine, James Cromwell, and Geraldine Chaplin. B.D. Wong might be back as his PARK / WORLD character Dr. Henry Wu, and it has been rumored that Brooke Norbury is playing a 9-year-old girl named Lucy, the character featured in the first official image (you can see a cropped version of that image above).

JURASSIC WORLD 2, or whatever it ends up being called, is scheduled to be released on June 22, 2018.
