Interview: Matt Damon Talks Stillwater, The Last Duel and More!

Last Updated on August 10, 2021

In Stillwater, the latest from Tom McCarthy (Spotlight, Win-Win), the filmmaker explores the subject of an Oklahoma man trying to help his imprisoned daughter arrested for murder in France. The film stars Matt Damon, Camille Cottin, with  Abigail Breslin as Damon's estranged daughter. There is much to appreciate, starting with the performances. Matt Damon is exceptional here. The actor takes on a challenging role and completely inhabits him down to his stance. As well, the supporting cast – including Cottin and Breslin – are both terrific. And aside from the performances, you also have McCarthy's solid direction and a story that is relevant and very powerful.

A couple of weeks back, we had the distinct pleasure of chatting with Mr. Damon about his latest. The actor gives what is possibly a career-best performance as Bill, a man who has spent most of his life working on various oil rigs, out of his daughter's life. Damon opened up about talking to men that live this life and how he wanted to tell a truthful account of who they are. The actor also discussed his upcoming feature, Ridley Scott's The Last Duel, and how the film had to be placed on hold after COVID-19. Matt Damon is always an incredible pleasure to speak with. He's also quite talented, and this is certainly one of his best roles to date.

Check out Stillwater, currently in theatres. And we will have more coming later this week as we interview Abigail Breslin, Camille Cottin, and Tom McCarthy! Read our review HERE!
