Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie was originally scheduled for a December 22, 2023 release, but as the movie hasn’t even begun shooting yet, it should come as no surprise that Disney has now removed Rogue Squadron from its schedule.

It was first announced that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins would helm Rogue Squadron in December 2020 and everyone involved seemed pretty pumped about the project. Love and Monsters co-writer Matthew Robinson signed on to pen the script, which was going to introduce audiences to “a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy.” Jenkins had said that she was using her fighter pilot father as an inspiration and wanted to make the “greatest fighter pilot movie ever made.Rogue Squadron was delayed late last year, reportedly due to those dreaded creative differences, so removing it from the release slate is a mere formality at this point.

Although there are several Star Wars movies in development in addition to Rogue Squadron, it seems that the franchise will be limited to the small screen for the foreseeable future. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy is reportedly holding off on giving the green light to any Star Wars movie project anytime soon.

While Rogue Squadron may be wiped off the schedule for now, Disney set release dates for several other movies. Wish will be released on November 22, 2023; Haunted Mansion has moved from March 10, 2023 to August 11, 2023; an untitled Marvel movie has been pushed from Febuary 16, 2024 to September 6, 2024; Pixar’s Elio will launch on March 1, 2024; The Snow White remake starring Rachel Zegler will hit theaters on March 22, 2024; Inside Out 2 will follow on June 14, 2024; and The Lion King follow-up Mufasa will land on July 5, 2024.
