Reign of Chucky: book covers every film in the Child’s Play franchise!

Child's Play 2Child's Play 2

The second season of the Chucky television series (read our review at THIS LINK) just started airing on Syfy and USA Network last week, and if you’re curious to know exactly how the Child’s Play franchise reached this point, you might want to pick up a copy of the newly released book Reign of Chucky: The True Hollywood Story of a Not So Good Guy. Written by Dustin McNeill and Travis Mullins, the Harker Press book is available in hardcover (get it HERE), paperback (get that HERE), and Kindle editions (order the Kindle version HERE).

Reign of Chucky has a page count of 470 and the following description:

From the authors of TAKING SHAPE comes REIGN OF CHUCKY, an exhaustive new look at the cinematic history of everyone’s favorite Good Guy. Covering all seven films in the franchise, this is the book fans have been waiting for. The authors’ exhaustive research is backed by over thirty new interviews with cast, crew, and producers from throughout the series. As such, each chapter is brimming with untold behind the scenes stories that will be new to even the most diehard devotees. Also featuring rare personal photos from cast and crew, REIGN is sure to delight anyone in the cult of Chucky. So, wanna play?

Reign of Chucky includes:

– An extensive new interview with master of horror Tom Holland
– Coverage of how Don Mancini’s Blood Buddy script evolved into Child’s Play
– Details on the arduous search to find Chucky’s voice
– Revelations on an alternately developed take on Child’s Play 2
– Why one sequel was briefly canceled on moral grounds
– A full rundown of deleted and alternate scenes
– Insight from producers into studio meddling (and support)
– How Child’s Play 3 was wrongly blamed for murder
– Which filming location was actually haunted
– Which sequel Roger Ebert was banned from previewing
– Which Chucky flick Oprah blames for weight gain
– Scoops on which cast/crew have their own Good Guy
– A full version of the original Damballa Chant. The authors highly advise against reading this aloud, especially around dolls.

Despite that warning, there is going to be an audiobook version of Reign of Chucky, coming soon from Encyclopocalypse Publications for Audible. So someone is going to have to read that chant aloud…

More information can be found at ChuckyBook.com, and a trailer for the book can be seen at the bottom of this article.

McNeill and Mullins previously wrote the books Taking Shape: Developing Halloween from Script to Scream and Taking Shape II: The Lost Halloween Sequels. McNeill has also written books on Phantasm, Freddy vs. Jason, and the Jaws ride that once stood at Universal Studios Florida. I have read the Freddy vs. Jason book (Slash of the Titans) and am currently reading the Taking Shape books. They have been fascinating reads, so I’m sure McNeill and Mullins have done great work on Reign of Chucky as well.
