Spider-Man 2 video game will pit Peter & Miles against Venom

Spider-Man 2 video game

Given how successful Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man was when it was released on PS4 back in 2018, it was really only a matter of time before we got a sequel. A follow-up game, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, was released two years later and brought the franchise into the next-gen era, and it was officially announced today that they will be bringing the Spider-Man 2 video-game to PS5 in 2023.

We’re so thrilled to continue the journey of both Peter Parker and Miles Morales in their most epic single-player adventure yet, coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 consoles in 2023,” said Insomniac Games’ Head of Franchise Strategy & Studio Relations Ryan Schneider. As an added bonus, it was revealed that Venom will be voiced by none other than Candyman‘s Tony Todd. That will be amazing. Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter will reprise their roles of Peter and Miles, respectively, and much of the original development team has returned as well.

While pushing the capabilities of the console will be very exciting, we’re equally pumped to craft all-new stories for Peter and Miles in this sequel,” Schneider said. “Just as in our previous Spider-Man games, we not only want to tell a great Super Hero story, but also deliver a compelling human story, one full of heart and humor that dives deep into the people behind the mask.

Spider-Man 2 isn’t the only Marvel video-game that Insomniac is working on, as they also revealed that they’re developing a Wolverine game for PS5 as well. “In the vein of our Spider-Man games, our goal here is to not only respect the DNA of what makes the character so popular, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh and truly reflect the Insomniac spirit,” Schneider explained. “Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special.” If the team is able to pull off the same fantastic gameplay with Wolverine, we might be in for quite a treat.
