Spider-Man: No Way Home pre-sale tickets are already breaking records and while most who have gotten tickets early are your everyday moviegoers who are excited for the movie of the year, the mad rush has also attracted scalpers and even a brawl with overzealous fans.

Tickets for the opening night of the film have been selling out left and right and now scalpers are attempting to take advantage of the high demand by selling them for ridiculous prices. One listing had an “early viewing” ticket listed for a staggering $10,000 as a minimum bid and others have asked for even more. I want to believe that NO ONE will pay this much money to see the film on opening night but there are listings with bids way above retails that have already been placed. You can check out an example of the bids below.

Some believe that the release of an NFT could be causing scalpers to attempt sales like this. AMC announced on Sunday that the first 86,000 “AMC Stubs A-List, Premiere, or Investor Connect members”, who purchased or reserved tickets for a December 16 showing of the film would receive an “eco-friendly” Spider-Man NFT. You can check out their tweet about the NFT below!

While the scalping situation seems ridiculous, an actual brawl broke out over premiere tickets for the film at a theater in Cuernavaca, Mexico, according to the Spanish newspaper Diario de Morelos (via The New York Post). Fans flocked to the theater in droves to secure tickets which led to overeager fans getting into fights with the article stating, moviegoers were “beaten” at the theater by “young people who wanted to get in line for the pre-sale Spider-Man: No Way Home”. You can check out a video of the melee below.

I know we’re all excited to see the movie but let’s remember it is just a movie and there is room for all of us to see it. No need to pay thousands of dollars for a ticket or get involved in fights. It is interesting to see a film generate this much excitement during the pandemic era but I think we all can agree there are limits.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits screens on December 17, 2021.
