Mud director Jeff Nichols is in the process of assembling a gang of heavy-hitters for his new film, The Bikeriders. Getting ready to gas up for the New Regency project are Jodie Comer (Killing Eve, Free Guy), Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury RoadVenom), and Austin Butler (ElvisDune: Part 2). Nichols is directing the movie, which is a fictional story inspired by the photography of Danny Lyon and his 1967 book The Bikeriders.

On the production side, Sarah Green and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones are producing through Tri-State. Fred Berger will executive produce. According to DeadlineThe Bikeriders is an original story set in the 1960s following the rise of a fictional Midwestern motorcycle club. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a more sinister gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.

In the spring, Nichols became interested in the project when he bought the script and started courting talent. Nichols’ scripts typically attract big-name actors, so it’s no wonder that stars like Comer, Hardy, and Butler are already on board. New Regency boarded Nichols’ new film in May and has plans to shoot the movie in October.

Comer recently wrapped her role as Villanelle for Killing Eve, a role that earned her an Emmy nomination. She recently appeared in National Theatre Live’s play Prima Facie, which has become the highest-grossing show in the UK since the pandemic began and is headed to Broadway next year.

Hardy’s Havoc is in post-production. The story is set after a drug deal gone wrong when a bruised detective must fight through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son while unraveling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city. Gareth Evans directs, with Timothy Olyphant, Forest Whitaker, and Luis Guzman leading the cast. Finally, Butler is coming off his groundbreaking role as Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic. He’ll soon star as Feyd-Rautha in Dune: Part 2.

Are you intrigued by Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders? Is this the Sons of Anarchy-like feature motorcycle enthusiasts have been waiting for? We’ll find out when it bikes into theaters sometime down the road.
