The Cow: Winona Ryder, Dermot Mulroney star in mystery thriller

It’s not clear exactly what sort of thriller director Eli Horowitz is making with his feature debut The Cow, so it’s not clear if we’ll be covering the film much here on Arrow in the Head. But as of right now, it has caught our attention with its cast: Winona Ryder (Stranger Things) stars in the film alongside John Gallagher Jr. (10 Cloverfield Lane), Owen Teague (The Stand), Brianne Tju (47 Meters Down: Uncaged), and Dermot Mulroney (Young Guns). That’s a line-up that makes me interested in seeing this “mystery thriller” regardless of how thrilling it turns out to be.

Horowitz is the co-creator of the Amazon anthology series Homecoming, which starred Julia Roberts in its first season and Janelle Monáe in its second season. He has written the screenplay for The Cow with Matthew Derby, a writer on the Kristen Wiig / Alia Shawkat show Sandra. The story they have crafted together for this film is being kept entirely under wraps. We won’t find out more when The Cow heads into production, because filming has already been completed!

The film was produced by Raphael Margules and JD Lifshitz of BoulderLight Pictures, along with Shaun Sanghani of SSS Entertainment and Russ Posternak of Post Film. Anthony Eu of mm2 Asia serves as executive producer, and BoulderLight’s Tracy Rosenblum is the co-producer.

Eu had this to say about the project:

The Cow is a landmark film for mm2 Asia, and we are thrilled that we get to do it with this cast. We could not ask for a better lineup. BoulderLight Pictures have been amazing partners and we look forward to continue working with them in the future.”

BoulderLight Pictures and mm2 previously worked together on the horror film The Vigil and the drama Wild Indian. BoulderLight was also responsible for last year’s very cool release Becky.
