THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974) Tobe Hooper – (Deconstructing… TCM)

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Nothing says Christmas like the 1974 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch or own it here)! It's been nearly half a century since the late, great Tobe Hooper unleashed hell on audiences with his first and greatest horror film — and it hasn't lost an ounce of its power to shock, terrify and fascinate us.

Many filmmakers (including Hooper himself) have tried to recreate the same lightning in a bottle, but few have managed to reach this impossibly high bar of unrelenting horror and raw, unfiltered artistry. That's why it's one of our top candidates for the Deconstructing treatment now live on our JoBlo Horror Videos channel. We hope you discover something new — or at least enjoy a fresh dip into the cinematic fever dream that is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre .

Deconstructing is a monthly web series in which we choose one of your favorite horror movies and take it apart piece by piece (lovingly, of course) to see what makes it a classic. Each episode examines the origins, legacy and mysteries behind our beloved genre's most iconic titles… but we play fast and loose with the rules, so expect the unexpected!

This episode was Written, Edited and Narrated by Gregory Burkart, Produced by John Fallon and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
