2023 marks the 35th anniversary of director John Carpenter‘s cult classic sci-fi thriller They Live (watch it HERE) and the 40th anniversary of his awesome Stephen King adaptation Christine (watch that one HERE) – and to celebrate these anniversaries, Fathom Events will be bringing both movies back to the big screen in September! They Live is first, with its theatrical screenings set for September 3rd and 6th, then Christine follows on September 10th and 13th. Inspired by the 1963 short story Eight O’Clock in the Morning by Ray Nelson, They Live tells us that aliens are systematically gaining control of the Earth by masquerading as humans and lulling the public into submission. Humanity’s last chance lies with a lone drifter who stumbles upon a harrowing discovery — a unique pair of sunglasses that reveals the terrifying and deadly truth.

Carpenter wrote the film under the pen name Frank Armitage. “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Meg Foster, Keith David, Raymond St. Jacques, George “Buck” Flower, and Peter Jason star.

Carpenter directed Christine from a screenplay by Bill Phillips. The film tells the story of a shy teen who comes out of his shell after he buys a ’58 Plymouth Fury to fix up. The car has a mind of its own, as well as a murderous past, and begins to change the young man and everyone around him in most dangerous fashion.

Keith Gordon, John Stockwell, Alexandra Paul, Robert Prosky, Harry Dean Stanton, Christine Belford, Roberts Blossom, William Ostrander, David Spielberg, Malcolm Danare, Steven Tash, Stuart Charno, Kelly Preston, and Robert Darnell star.

Will you be heading out to see They Live and/or Christine on the big screen this September? Let us know by leaving a comment below.

I would love to see either of these movies in the theatre, Christine especially, but unfortunately I won’t be in a Fathom Events area when the screening dates roll around. Oh well. Maybe I’ll see them at another time down the line.
