What’s this? An R-rated comedy from Adam Sandler? That’s My Boy!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Adam Sandler, a name which used to be synonymous with fun, goofball humor and later morphed into an abysmal rut of toilet humor dredge. However, given all the mindless crap that he’s delivered throughout the years, he’s given a shot to venturing into some more adult-themed work (SPANGLISH, FUNNY PEOPLE) so I guess we can’t beat the guy up too much. At least he tried, we just didn’t bite.

Now, it appears Sandler is getting into the R-rated comedy market with THAT’S MY BOY alongside fellow SNL player, Adam Samberg.  The pic is directed by John Morris and Sean Anders, the creative team behind HOT TUB TIME MACHINE.

Check out the red-band trailer below:

I won’t say this looks hilarious, but it’s definitely one I’d like to see. Given that I’ve avoided the majority of Sandler’s work of late, this looks at least mildly appealing and a possible return to form for the comedian. I’d much rather see more of this type of work than GROWN UPS 2, that’s for damn sure.

The film also stars Leighton Meester, James Caan, Eva Amurri, Susan Sarandon, Milo Ventimiglia, Will Forte, Colin Quinn, Todd Bridges, Vanilla Ice and Ian Ziering.  Yes, THAT Vanilla Ice.

Here’s the synopsis:

While still in his teens, Donny (Adam Sandler) fathered a son, Todd (Andy Samberg), and raised him as a single parent up until Todd’s 18th birthday. Now, after not seeing each other for years, Todd’s world comes crashing down on the eve of his wedding when an uninvited Donny suddenly shows up. Trying desperately to reconnect with his son, Donny is now forced to deal with the repercussions of his bad parenting skills.

THAT’S MY BOY stumbles into theaters on June 15, 2013
