Paramount+ has a lot of original programming that stems from Taylor Sheridan’s creation, Yellowstone. But, the flagship show’s been in the eye of a storm recently, with it being reported that the show will not be continuing. Rather, a new extension of the series will start with Matthew McConaughey in the lead role and notable cast members from the parent show may join him. However, ComicBook.com is now shedding light on new behind the scenes details that may hold up production of season 5 of the popular Kevin Costner starring vehicle.

Earlier, it has been reported that Costner was aiming for a shorter shooting schedule on the back end of season 5, and his team had given the production an availability of just one week to film all his scenes for eight episodes, with two additional days for pick-up shots. Hollywood attorney Marty Singer responds to the news, “The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of Season 5 of Yellowstone is an absolute lie. “It’s ridiculous—and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second. As everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”

According to Puck’s Matthew Belloni, “Costner’s original contract for the series included an increase in pay should the series last six episodes, jumping from $1.2 million to $1.5 million per episode. Including the various delays involved with the show, Yellowstone Season 5B will essentially film and release in the initial window reserved for the show’s sixth season.”

The insider expounds, “But more likely, this is a relationship that has run its course. [Yellowstone creator Taylor] Sheridan is certainly furious, I’m told; he can’t finish writing the 5B episodes until the Costner drama is resolved and his star is either in or out.”

In January, Paramount Network announced that the latter half of season 5 was to premiere this summer. No specific date was given, but it’s just as well considered to be delayed for the moment as the behind the scenes drama continues.
