Carrie remake delayed until October 2013, plus a low res peek at the new poster

Jan. 2, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Let's play the movie shuffle game!  Well, I wish I could say this was a huge surprise, but it actually makes a lot of sense.  Originally slated to open in March, the CARRIE remake is now being bumped to October, which steers it clear of another remake that's still on course to open dangerously close, that being the EVIL DEAD remake.  Both of them opening weeks apart always struck me as a gamble, so perhaps this was a game of scheduling chicken and CARRIE lost.

The remake is directed by Kimberly Peirce (STOP LOSS, BOYS DON'T CRY) and stars Chloe Moretz as the titular character, originally played by Sissy Spacek, and co-stars Julianne Moore as Carrie's crazy mother.  The first adaptation was directed by Brian DePalma, and propelled a young John Travolta forward into his career, while leaving images of a blood soaked Spacek embedded in our minds for decades to come.

Also today, a new low-res poster snuck online for the film, showing a blood-soaked CARRIE dripping all over the page. (UPDATE: We're getting reports that it's a fanmade fake...but, a pretty good one if it is.)  Naturally, we'll update as soon as we have a higher resolution version, but you can take a gander nonetheless below.

CARRIE will now play alongside the likes of Luc Besson's MALEVITA and THE SEVENTH SON, also starring Julianne Moore, on October 18, 2013.

Extra Tidbit: Do you think Carrie will play better for the Halloween crowd or has the studio screwed the pooch? I think it's a wise move. At least they don't have toys on the shelves and a slew of trailers online *ahem*GIJoeRetaliation*ahem*

Well any horror should be released in October period & anything besides those pointless & horrible Paranormal Activity movies, which make the Saw movies look like the Godfather by now. Kinda sucks it's delayed, i was actually looking forward to seeing the new take on Carrie & Chloe- Moretz is a pretty solid young actress.

It would probably work better around Halloween. However, the quality of the movie should be what's important, not the release date. I'm open to this but won't pass any judgement until I seen the final film. FYI, in response to the Extra Tidbit - NECA is releasing action figures based on the movie, which were set to come out in late Feb.

I don't even understand why October isn't the obvious month to release a horrorr film?
Why would anybody wanted this movie to come out in March? It's like releasing a Christmas movie in June.

October, I think, is a good month for this. I am actually looking forward to this. They can actually make the film fairly faithfully to the book now. Hope they go all out with this one. The original is a decent film, but they held back. Hopefully this one doesn't.

I think it's a good choice and something better to see then PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 142.

i like the change

moving it to Halloween will give it a better audience and will be more likely to be remembered around that time for years to come. Im not against the movie, i didnt really care for the original, and everything i've seen of the new movie looks to be in good shape.
