Haven’t had enough of politics lately?  Well, get ready, because Netflix’s new original series, House of Cards is getting prepped for its post-inaugural debut and today we have the first trailer.  Starring Kevin Spacey as a ruthless Congressman and Robin Wright as his equally conniving wife, the story centers on the dirty dealings, intrigue, and betrayal in the heart of U.S. politics.  The kicker?  The show comes from director David Fincher (FIGHT CLUB) and screenwriter Beau Willmon (THE IDES OF MARCH), with Fincher directing a number of episodes.

Get dirty:

I won’t say that this trailer blew me away, but damned if I won’t watch.  The ingredients of Kevin Spacey as a dirty politician, Kate Mara simply showing up, and David Fincher producing and directing is enough to get me onboard initially.  Whether or not the series will have legs is unknown, just like any new show.  House of Cards is the first show commissioned by Netflix, which outbid a host of cable networks for the property with a two-season, 26-episode order.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Based on the British miniseries, ruthless and cunning, Congressman Francis Underwood (Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey) and his wife Claire (Robin Wright) stop at nothing to conquer everything. This wicked political drama penetrates the shadowy world of greed, sex, and corruption in modern D.C. Kate Mara (“American Horror Story”) and Corey Stoll (“Midnight in Paris”) costar in the first original series from David Fincher (“The Social Network”) and Beau Willimon (“The Ides of March”).

House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright, Kate Mara, Corey Stoll, Michael Kelly, Sakina Jaffrey, Kristen Connolly, Constance Zimmer, will begin streaming the entire first season on February 1, 2013.

Always a pleasure to have Kate Mara onscreen…
