Who is Tubal-Cain? Meet Noah's nemesis in this new featurette
Growing up, I remember knowing the story of Noah's Ark by heart. I remember the pairs of animals, the floods, the whole shebang. But, Darren Aronofsky is not setting out to tell us the tale of NOAH that we all remember. Now, while I cannot say I know the Biblical story verbatim, I don't recall Noah having a nemesis quite as intimidating as Tubal-Cain. But, that could also be because Ray Winstone was never portraying him before.
While Tubal-Cain may not be the scariest name, Ray Winstone looks to be playing him with a ferocity straight out of something from a horror movie. The scarred face, the warrior attire, and the guttural voice, all combine to make for quite a disturbing foe. This new NOAH featurette gives us a little more insight into who Tubal-Cain is and how he elevates NOAH as a whole.
It is a world without hope, a world with no rain and no crops, dominated by warlords and their barbarian hordes. In this cruel world, Noah is a good man. A seasoned fighter, mage and healer who only wants peace for him and his family. Yet every night, Noah is beset by visions of an endless flood, symbolizing the destruction of all life. Gradually, he begins to understand the message sent him by the Creator. He has decided to punish the men and kill them until the last. But he gives Noah a last chance to preserve life on Earth
Everything about NOAH looks new to me. Hell, even the ark and the animals seem to take a backseat to the intense confrontations teased between Winstone and Russell Crowe in the trailers for the film. With some top-notch actors in this film, seeing Darren Aronofsky's first big budget, FX laden studio picture is icing on a strongly performed cake. I just hope it lives up to the expectations I have for it.
