Rumor: Lost's Terry O'Quinn is on Zack Snyder's shortlist for Lex Luthor in Batman vs Superman

Nov. 12, 2013by: Jesse Giroux

All the BATMAN VS SUPERMAN news lately has been Wonder Woman and Nightwing rumors, but what about Lex Luthor? It was rumored Bryan Cranston had been cast as Luthor for the new film, however the actor denied it back in September, and we haven't heard anything since.

Now Superman Super Site has learned from several sources who are close to the production for the film that Terry O'Quinn is on a shortlist to play Lex Luthor in BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. The Lost actor is only the latest contender for the part though, and not a lock (heh, get it?), but Zack Snyder is interested in O'Quinn for Lex Luthor.

Terry O'Quinn could potentially be a great Lex Luthor, but it really depends on how the character will be used in the film. Will he just be the man behind the curtain, pulling the strings? I know that's what he primarily does in the comics, but he also occasionally punches shit, and that's something we haven't seen too much of in previous movies with the character. It'll be interesting to see how Lex Luthor will be handled in the new movie.

BATMAN VS SUPERMAN starring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill will hit theaters July 17th, 2015.

Extra Tidbit: Do you think Lex Luthor will be the reason why Batman meets Superman in the new film? Maybe he "hires" the detective to investigate Superman after the destructive events in MAN OF STEEL?

Wow... NO!!!!!

THis movie is getting worse an worse.
You know who I feel the most sorry for? Henry Cavil! poor henry Cavil had a good role here and opportunity..he could have been the new Superman for this generation.....now it will be ruined by the other actors who wont humble themselves and reject the role because they should know they don't look like the right person.....
Just because your asked to take a role does'nt mean you should accept it..There is a GIGANTIC missed opportunity here for this

JIM CAVIEZELl should be Batman (Edmond Dantes)
Guy Pierce Lex Luthor (Fernand Mondego)
Henry Cavil is Superman (Albert Mondego aka Albert Dantes aka son of Edmond Dantes)
Dagmara Domińczyk as Wonder Woman (Countess Mondego aka Mercedes Dantes) if not Jamie Alexander

Then You will have the entire cast of Count Of Monte Christo. How Awesome!!!!!!!

Dagmara Domińczyk:

She may need to work out since recent times she had a baby and gained some weight. But she can do it

Go Ahead! tell me she doesn't look like Wonder Woman more than anyone else mentioned!

I still think that Nicholas Cage would be a perfect Lex Luthor. :))
It makes a lot more sense than Ben Affleck being Batman, really. Nic loves Superman, even attached to play as the Man of Steel at one time (glad that didn't happen, by the way), and he even named his son Kal-El. God knows he will become his son's greatest enemy sooner or later.

Holy predictions!

I'm not one to brag but I'm totally going to now. On a recent Cast This I nominated Terry O' Quinn for the role of Luthor because I thought it would be cool. I never in a million years thought it could actually happen. Seeing this news made me extremely happy and also caused a lil' "Holy sh*t really?!" to silently pop out of my face, since I'm at work and all.

Speaking of a younger actor, why not Michael Rosenbaum? Bad Smallville dialogue aside, he played a great Lex and I would love to see him get more room with better writing for that character. He's "aged" now so why not?!

I have a friend who shaves his head. I should totally rally for him to play Lex. No wait, too young. Dammit! Bald but not geriatric enough.
Honestly, I think O'Quinn could work BUT do we really need such older men? Why not someone in their 30's? Why does he have to be 50 or reaching 50? Why is most of his life already over? We don't need some grandstand origin for Lex but he also really doesn't need to be so "aged" as they say. At this point, lets shave Clancy Browns hair and give him the

Terry would be awesome. He's a fantastic actor and has the right look and presence. I'd expect them to go for a bigger name, someone who has more credits in film, but he's an excellent choice. Though, I still think Cranston would be awesome and it's a shame he's not doing it.

I agree that it needs to be someone with more charisma. I've only seen O-quinn in a few roles but he always seems to be a macho asshole type not exactly right for Lex. I'm sure he could be intimidating as hell but from what I've seen I can't picture this guy as a calculating evil CEO.

What about Billy Zane? Lex needs charisma and attitude; Billy has that charm/attitude needed, has the right look, and is age appropriate for the role.

Some of the best and my most favorite performances in the past few years have been either relatively unknown actors cast for major parts, or completely out of left field actors that don't fit the typical, cliche,' expected mold for the character (i.e. Lex is bald, so let's cast someone who at one point played a villain and also looks good bald!). I heard fans tossing around Cranston or O'Quinn rumors a long time ago, but I expected the actual studio to have a little more imagination than that.

They got the perfect person to play Superman, and he was completely unknown. They already got a high-profile, out of nowhere actor for Batman. I'm genuinely curious to see which way they go with Lex Luthor.

The problem with Superman Returns' Lex Luthor didn't have as much to do with Kevin Spacey as it did with the writers. Spacey was convincing enough, it was just the writers' decision to make his evil plot reduced to real estate.

Michael Rooker would KILL as LEX

Michael Rooker would be believable as LEX. Lex Luthor should be physically fit. Lex should be able to stand face to face with the Man of Steel and not be one bit intimidated by him. He should radiate "I dont give a $#!&, and Rooker has that. Lex, in a sense, is prejudice towards Supes because he isn't human. We have all seen how well Rooker can pull off that prejudiced attitude in Walking Dead. Oh, and he looks great bald (see Mallrats, Slither).

But it doesn't make sense is the problem, Supes would kill him with one sneeze, hence why all these characters and stories dont matter, you cant kill Superman, so he is boring to watch for teh most part. I know people liek to singleout the Dark Knight storyline, but Superman could have killed Bruce easily with one punch, he let him beat him

Love me some Rooker but I don't agree at all about him being right for Lex. I don't mean this as any disrespect towards Rooker but he just doesn't come off as a savvy businessman happens to be a genius. I always pictured Lex as someone who isn't physically intimidating but can mess up your entire life with other means. Rooker could work great as one of Lex's henchmen but as the man with the plan I don't see it.

Great actor, I think he is a little too old to continue to play Lex throughout all of the DC movies though, I assume Lex Luthor will be in more than one.

He could do a good job. And depending on how they try to characterize Luthor in this movie Terry O'Quinn could work fine. Overall though, I think they could probably get someone better. There's something about O'Quinn that I just can't see him being menacing enough. At least not in a Lex Luthor way.

Haha "punches shit." I think he'd be fine, but could do better. And I assume he'll be just pulling the strings, though eventually I hope we get him in that suit trying to fight him. Really...what's the difference between Bruce Wayne and lex luthor? The personal tragedy?

You're right. At times, I've thought the same thing. They're both extremely wealthy and intelligent human beings with no powers, but both are the most dangerous people on the planet that pose a direct threat to Superman.

I like Terry a lot, I do- he was a fantastic villain in Earth 2. However, his presence doesn't make me as fearful and uncomfortable as Strong does.

When Strong's on the screen- I literally feel like I could be murdered with his stare.

I know they are going the DARK KNIGHT RETURNS route..

Which is awesome, but i think they're going to change it up with the whole future girl robin thing, which I think is pretty cool. I never liked that character and always felt like Farank did what the studios do and just make shit up just because. Switching her out for Nightwing makes sense but only if they are smart and begin the fim showing Batman and Robin (a kid Robin like Hitgirl, not like Chis O'Donell, who was like 30 and bigger than Batman) fighting crime for years, and then Robin

Then flash forward to a weary older batman who returns to Gotham, which is in Chaos, so he recruits Nightwing, which was the second Robin (Flashback), now all grown up. They get Gotham under control, etc. You know the rest..

I don't mind this suggestion and would rather him than Bryan Cranston, whom I'm holding out hope will be the next live-action Commissioner Gordon. Honestly speaking, I really enjoyed Kevin Spacey's take on Lex. It was theatrical and threatening at the same time. There've also been whispers of the inclusion of Metallo in this film. Neal McDonough is a popular fan suggestion and one that I fully back.

All of Nolan's Batman films had like 7 or 8 primary cast members. I mean look at The Dark Knight

1. Batman
2. Joker
3. Harvey Dent
4. Rachel
5. Alfred
6. Gordon
7. Lucius
8. Maroni

Plus the significant supporting players like Antrhony Michael Hall and Joshua Harto's characters, the mayor, etc. No, if you're a talented enough writer you can balance this many characters, no problem. However, The Dark Knight was written by Jonathan Nolan and this is being written by Goyer (who,

Why is it that all of these rumors involve previously bald guys (Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, and now Terry O'Quinn)?

The rumor makers aren't even trying anymore. I assume WB knows that they can shave a guys head and don't need to search the world for a bald guy.

Probably because it's just easier to envision a man who is already bald or shaved for the part. Bryan Cranston was the only one who annoyed me in this respect, because outside of Walter White he usually has hair, and Breaking Bad still hadn't ended so it screamed of flavor-of-the-month casting.

I read awhile back, but now I can't find it, that the SAG requires certain obligations to studios who want their actors to shave their heads because it might clash with their ability to find work until it grows back.

Quinn, Strong, Cranston (never seen Breaking Bad so only going by other's opinions of him)....at least they're going for quality. I definitely like the first two choices. Though if they are going for a Lex that "punches shit", Strong might be the better option. As for "Do you think Lex Luthor will be the reason why Batman meets Superman", hopefully they'll go to the Superman animated series when Conroy came to town for inspiration.

a great choice,

but, as others have said, I'm tired of having Lex Luthor be the primary antagonist of a SUPERMAN film. I'd prefer he be behind-the-scenes, outwardly benevolent but plotting his dastardly schemes over the course of a few movies.

This would be brilliant casting. Even more so than Cranston and Strong getting the part. O'Quinn was always my first pick for Lex and I really hope this comes true. He would be phenomenal.
