Rumor: The X-Men and The Fantastic Four could unite on screen in 2018

06.24.2015

We've been receiving our fair share of Marvel and DC rumours these past few days and the latest comes to us from Latino-Review so take it with a grain of salt. Twentieth Century Fox currently has an unknown Marvel film slotted in for July 13, 2018 and if the rumours are true, that unknown film could wind up being our first X-Men/Fantastic Four cinematic crossover.

Whether or not this comes to pass depends on a variety of factors, most importantly would be how Josh Trank's upcoming FANTASTIC FOUR film is received. The premiere of Trank's film is fast approaching its August 7, 2015 release and public response to the film thus far has been...less than kind, but I remain hopeful that FANTASTIC FOUR will surprise us. Should the film actually succeed in that regard, I'd imagine that Fox would be able to move forward with confidence with this whole crossover idea.

As to which characters would be involved in the potential crossover, presumably Josh Trank's cast of Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell would stick around, but things get a little more confusing in the X-Men camp as many of the big actors will be moving on following the release of X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. It seems as though Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Alexandra Shipp, and Lana Condor are being set up as the new youthful faces of the franchise, so perhaps Fox will find a way to bring them together with The Fantastic Four.

FANTASTIC FOUR already has a sequel penciled in for July 14, 2017 and X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is coming on May 27, 2016. How would you folks feel should the mystery film of July 13, 2018 indeed prove to be the rumoured crossover?

I'd be down

The negativity towards the Fantastic Four reboot is warranted (though I usually err on the side of waiting to see the movie before reacting), but I really think it's going to do well. That last trailer, shown in the article, was REALLY good, and when shown before a crowded theater (before Avengers 2) it got a big ovation. So, I'd 100% be behind a crossover, pending Fantastic Four.

Original Crew

I want to see a proper X-men 4 set in the present day, hopefully that's what the unnamed film is... Wolverine might not be hanging around, but a cross-over seems unnecessary, FF should be cosmic, and even though the x-men got into their fare share of cosmic shit, they should be dealing with mutant issues and staying the hell out of outer space

What would be the point? X-Men has comparable powered characters for every member of the F4, and more to spare. Fox could certainly hint that they exist in the same cinematic universe, but there doesn't seem to be much benefit to a team-up movie.

Surely the mutant world is bigger and diverse enough to happily be its own universe... crossing over with it's own kind... without the need to add the F4 to it. I've never understood the whole mutants and non mutants (but super powered) angle even when reading the comics and always thought they should have been separate anyway. For example, are the F4 not mutants? They've mutated as did Spider-Man. So what if they weren't born with mutant genes. Lets not even consider where the Inhumans

Let Fox keep the mutants but give F4 back to Marvel :o)

being born with mutant genes is a major point in the comics. even in a universe with other super-powered beings. it's the basis of Magneto's whole "superior race" thing.

Haven't liked what I've seen for Fant4stic for the most part so hard to be excited about this.

Pass.....

Seriously....we don't even know if the X-Men movies are going to be any good (and we know the FF movie is going to suck), so what is the attraction of putting them together?

Maybe they are waiting to see how Deadpool does before they announce a sequel.

Could it also be the date for X-Force or possibly a Deadpool sequel?

there'd have to be some universe/dimension hopping

i wonder how they'd integrate mutants into the new fantastic four universe. because having super powers is what makes them "fantastic". if this is the same universe that bryan singer built, would they just be more "mutant freaks"? i mean, we're talking about a universe where magneto lifted and dropped a baseball stadium over president Nixon in the 70's. i don't see how they'll explain people being amazed by a stretchy dude.

Well in the F4 trailer the F4 team learn how to cross dimensions. Im assuming they will cross into the Mutant Universe and either team up or go head to head if this crossover even happens.

Based off how shitty the new Fantastic Four reboot looks, I would rather they not crossover.

The X-Men franchise was basically dead in the water after The Last Stand, and Origins: Wolverine only to be resurrected by First Class, Wolverine, and DOFP. So I don't really want the franchise to go back to shit by joining forces with this new uninspired, non looking Fantastic Four film.

what's to say a good crossover won't "resurrect" Fantastic Four? as much praise as First Class and DOFP have gotten, people forget that they took HUGE liberties with the comic characters. mystique is professor X's childhood best friend? professor X is a hippie burn-out with long hair? moira mctaggert is a CIA agent? that's "non looking" X-Men to me. but it ended up being fine.

Since the new x-men film will be in the 80's, there's no way to do a crossover with that cast without some time travel story being involved.

They will have to reboot the F4 before they crossover for anyone to care.

I would be excited for the crossover, but we already know it won't have Wolverine, the F4 direction sucks already and it just might be too little, too late. I mean we already have mutants that can turn invisible, engulf themselves in flame and turn into unbreakable materials, so what's the big deal with adding the F4 to the roster? It makes sense to have Avengers and Justice League, but the F4 character will be drowned out by the much cooler X-Men. It's like mixing bananas with bananas instead
