Scott Adkins is not the Batman in this trailer for Ninja: Shadow of a Tear

Sep. 9, 2013by: Paul Shirey

Y'know, ever since he was rumored to have tested for the role of Batman in the MAN OF STEEL sequel BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, I've looked at Scott Adkins a little differently. Okay, actually, I look at him differently now that Ben Affleck has been cast in the role, because hot damn do they look similar. Dark hair, prounounced chin, medium build; these guys could be brothers. Maybe from another mother, but still. Anyway, with all that Batman stuff out there, it's hard not to watch this trailer for Adkins latest effort, NINJA: SHADOW OF A TEAR (aka NINJA II) and think about how close he resembles Affleck and how perfect he'd be for a Bat-stunt double. The film co-stars legendary martial arts actor Sho Kosugi's offspring Kane Kosugi and Vithaya Pansringarm, recently of ONLY GOD FORGIVES.

Take a look:

Here's the stright-to-video synopsis:

Ninjitsu master Casey is back and out for revenge when his pregnant wife is murdered.

I've never seen the first NINJA and it's perfectly obvious that this is niche material, but I did see UNIVERAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING, which was a whole lot of silly fun, due largely to Adkins awesome physicality, which he's made a healthy career of. I don't think that he's the kind of guy to pull off Bruce Wayne in the acting department, but if Zack Snyder is looking for someone to don the cowl for wide shots in BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, I think it's time to dial up Mr. Adkins and get him suited up.

In the meantime, you can catch NINJA: SHADOW OF A TEAR at Fantastic Fest on September 19, 2013 and for it's eventual video debut sometime after.

Extra Tidbit: He may never win an Oscar, but you've got to admire Adkins tenacity. He's been a slew of big budget Hollywood pics, including Zero Dark Thirty, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Expendables 2, and The Bourne Ultimatum. Keep chasing it, Adkins!

Hmm...

After watching that, he might not be a bad choice for Daredevil...

Looks decent

Like someone said before, it would be cool if adkins put on the batman suit just for the acTion and fighting scenes, how incredible would it be if batman had fighting scenes like this, it would be the first time there is a batman with credible fighting skills, acting wise i really dont know if adkins could pull it off, never thought i'd see dwayne johnson act good in a movie and he is turning out to be a very charismatic and decent actor nowadays.

This trailer looks like Johnny Cage's pitch "You Got Caged!" from Mortal Kombat Legacy.

He's only 5" shorter than, but yea, they sort of look similar. If Adkins were Batman I'd be bummed out for maybe an hour and then get over it, same as I did with Affleck. I can't cry over spilt milk.

Looking good.

Adkins is a phenomenal martial artist, no doubt about that. That said, he's a lot more charismatic and better at acting in his native (English) accent or Russian. His American characters tend to come off a little stiff. This does look awesome tho, and even better than the solid first installment.

Scott Adkins isn't a good actor, but neither is Ben Affleck. Both are terrible choices for Batman.

I saw the first one and thought it was fairly entertaining, but this looks a heck of a lot better. Ninja movies need to make a major comeback. Cinema is sadly lacking in ninja badassery.

Awesome

It's clear this has a higher budget than the first Ninja. I am disappointed that they recast his lady though.

He may not be the best actor around but I agree that he does look very similar to Ben Affleck. Maybe he shouldn't be the title character but I bet he would make just as much money being Batman's stunt double as he's getting for DTV movies like this. He sure handles the physicality very well.

I didn't know ninja were so cruel

"When his pregnant wife is murdered!?" Damn - that's a little below the belt.

Adkins really should be in theatrical movies

His DTVs are big guilty pleasures of mine. He's not a great actor but, man, he can carry silly actioners.
Even with chintzy budgets, the action in his flicks far surpass that of actual Hollywood theatrical movies with 10x the budget.

I agree. He was great in Expendables 2 and needs more big screen films going on.

I'm glad he's not Batman, because he honestly doesn't seem like a good actor and I guess you still to need to be able to carry the pathos to play the part. He is, however, an absolutely terrific martial artist and I did like him a lot as Van Damme's henchman in The Expendables 2. This film looks pretty generic, from the "I must avenge my wife!" premise up, but I think that may be what they're aiming for and Adkins probably still will be kicking ass and taking names. He kinda reminds me of Ray

Why do people want him for Batman so badly? Terrible actors who are decent martial artists, shouldn't act. Especially as Batman.

Yeah, I was kind of shocked how bad Van Damme's acting in Expendables 2 was.
