Still more Riddick?

Aug. 25, 2008by: Dave Davis

ridI like the RIDDICK series as much as the next guy. Especially if the next guy happens to be Vin Diesel.

Although the last movie didn't exactly light up the box office like the sunny side of Crematoria, Diesel still has designs on continuing the adventures of his smooth-skulled night-seeing intergalactic badass. The Vin-man says that PITCH BLACK and CHRONICLES writer-director David Twohy is "right now is writing the scripts. The only question is whether we take a page from the ‘Lord of the Rings’ guys and try to shoot the two chapters at the same time. There are two more in mind."

While it's an obvious passion project for Diesel and Twohy, it remains to be seen if anyone will pony up the cash for them to actually make another sequel, of course. Personally I might prefer playing as Riddick again -- BUTCHER BAY was an excellent videogame experience. But the follow-up ASSAULT ON DARK ATHENA was apparently part of the dumping when the publisher was absorbed by Activision, so who knows when we'll ever see it.

Extra Tidbit: Do you want to see Riddick travel to the "Underverse"? Or would you rather just see him killing his way out of another sticky situation?

Might have some hope left...

Despite mixed review over the last movie, i find that Riddick has the ability to shift its story in terms of depth. Somewhat like the Alien movies. A third (Or fourth if you count the animated Dark Fury) might just be what the doctor ordered

Like I stated in another thread - They need to go back to the planet and see if there are any survivors of Hunter/Gratzner. They had a great new age alien type movie and they completely negated that.

They need to stick w/ the alien species. its such a fascinating thing and I don't know why they had nothing to do with the 2nd movie.

They got to far fetched when they introduced world destroying soul eaters. Riddick could have been "our generations" Aliens.

I'm there

Riddick is one of the surprisingly few series to do a good job providing balls-out action in a sci-fi setting. Most sci-fi universes spend most of their time talking (you know who you are), and/or are set on Earth. Honestly, the only solid action films I can think of, set in space, providing comparable levels of violence would be Alien 1 & 2. I suppose it comes of having an "R" rating -- you just can't do a decent PG action film, and not many writer/directors have taken on the challenge of

Possibly because, on the face of it, street-fighting with fists and knives just doesn't make a whole lot of sense in a civilization with warp drives...wouldn't they be using lasers or something? Nonetheless, that's exactly what Pitch Black and Chronicles delivered: First Blood and Rambo in space. Sign me up for 3 and 4!

DREAMING?

Hopefully one day my dream might come true, when the studio just says "f@#k it" and makes RIDDICK VS ALIENS VS PREDATOR. I would GEEK OUT big time.

here is me holding my breath

I would like it if they made the underverse a footnote at the sequels beginning revealed to be another sham of a cult/religion, a lie started by the first lord marshal, L Ron Hubbard style. Then get into some good old violent action. I just don't have the imagination to conjure a decent adversary.

I liked Chronicles and I think they could make an entertaining sequel. My inner fanboy wants the light sensitive aliens from the original to have a small cameo.

The thing about a sequel is that they would have to follow the director's cut of TCoR. The director's cut was bounds better than the butchered theatrical cut.

Mmmmm ... I wants it! I wants it NOW!

I don't know why so many people didn't like "Chronicles." Personally, I think it's better than all three "Star Wars" prequels combined (no joke). But hey, that's just my opinion.

And to all those people saying that the next movie should be smaller in scale, like "Pitch Black," uh-uh. Wouldn't work. You can go from a small setting to a larger one, but not vice versa. That's part of the reason "Alien 3" blew. You just can't go backwards

While making him a leader of evil soul-destroying warlords could be a very interesting idea if done correctly, I still am in the camp that much prefers "Pitch Black"'s Mad Max meets Aliens to the more ambitious "Chronicles of Riddick."

Bring It!

I just watched Chronicles the other day and I have always dug the series, Pitch Black is the best, and I think they need to go back to that scheme. But I am all for seeing some blades cuttin' some fools up.

'Bout Time

I love myself some Pitch Black. Riddick was fun too. I just think they should bring it down a notch and make it more gritty like PB. Imagine an intergalactic cat-and-mouse between Riddick and a Merc? Like, the whole movie. Could be pretty bad ass.

Four movies total:
A cat-and-mouse Merc movie
Pitch Black
Chronicles of Riddick
Sequel to Chronicles of Riddick

Just an idea.

Im fan of these two films, and would defenetly love to see Riddick go to the "underverse" or discover that it doesnt even exist, which is probably what will happen.

I was sadden to see how Chronicles didnt make much moola, I thought it was great. And Id love to see whats coming next for Riddick. I thought the second one was so entertaining and an excellent science fiction film, specially the directors cut with the deleted scenes which made a whole lot more sense.

Only thing I didnt love

Only thing I didnt love about Chronicles were Vin Diesels one liners like this one:

"Keira: Get that ass moving!" ;)
or
"Its been a long time since I smelled beautiful"

Riddick!

I'd really like to see another Riddick movie. Have itpick up right where the last one left off with Riddick sitting on the throne of the Necromongers.

I love Pitch Black and Chronicles was a decent follow up, shoot me but I dug it alot. I'd like to see a direct sequel and I hope they avoid doing that whole prequel thing that they do when the main star is 10 years older and clearly looks it. Yup, put Riddick in another kill or be killed situation that's what he's best at. Bring it on

Pitch Black was good, Chronicles was horrible. The problem is, I don't think these two realize that, and will try to make more Chronicles type crap.

Oh and the fact that they dropped Dark Athena (Pretty sure it was a Butcher Bay remake) is a travesty.

I Think He Can...

I agree I think Vin Diesel may pull off a successful comeback, Babylon A.D. looks good, and I have to admit I was pretty stoked after I saw the new Fast and the Furious trailer. Hes a good actor, just have to wait and see if his two upcoming flicks are good or not.

Pitch Black was awesome, and i liked Chronicles when it wasn't focusing all the goofy Necromonger crap. if the sequels tone down (or get rid of) that shiat and focus on Riddick kicking ass in cool places, i'm on board for another one.

I might be getting ahead of myself here, but I was wondering if anyone else was thinking the same as me; could Vin Diesel be making a comeback? My answer is I certainly hope so!!

I've been a fan of his since PITCH BLACK and always thought that he had enormous amount of potential and underrated (as an actor, not an action star). I mean, have people forgotten that Spielberg WROTE the Pvt. Caparzo role specifically for him in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN all because of a short film Vin wrote,

I mean, have people forgotten that Spielberg WROTE the Pvt. Caparzo role specifically for him in SAVING PRIVATE RYAN all because of a short film Vin wrote, directed, and starred in? I mean, if Spielberg thinks you've got potential (and enough to create a whole role, albeit a fairly minor one but a role nonetheless, in his movie) then you've got potential, know what I mean?

BABYLON A.D. looks kick-ass but I don't think they're marketing it enough so, unfortunately, I don't think it'll make a huge bang (but I certainly wouldn't mind being proven wrong). And with FAST AND FURIOUS coming out next summer, I just got a feeling that Vin might be coming back. Which makes me excited, don't know about anyone else.

Anyway, I sure as hell hope they do more with Riddick! PITCH BLACK was awesome (and my first Vin experience; naturally when I walked out of the theater I thought that he was a total badass) and CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK was just as great! Riddick is such a great character for Vin and I definitely want to see more of him!

SWEET!

I dug Chronicles. So much that it was cable just the other day and couldn't turn it off. Riddick is a great character and I believe the best part of his story has yet to be told. They should shoot both at the same time to save money and just about guarantee a theatrical release. There are several franchises that I would see continual sequels and this is definitely one of them.

The Riddick Films...

are the reason I have a soft spot for ol' Vin. The man really rules the role, it's his Terminator.

I really, REALLY would love to see at least one more, so that way we can offically label Riddick as a trilogy. Two more would be a blast, but I doubt a studio would put up the cash for two big Riddick films, let alone one.

Oh yeah, and right you are Dave Davis-- Butcher Bay fucking rocks! In fact, I'm considering whipping that bad boy out and playing him once again.
