Teaser trailer for Cartoon Network’s Beware the Batman arrives

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The first teaser for the upcoming Beware The Batman animated series from Cartoon Network has arrived. It’s a short little intro, but features a few things of note; The batmobile, Batman’s voice, and the animation style in motion.

Take a look and then let’s chat:

Okay, so I know there are a lot of animation fans out there, which is why we run these stories. There’s also a lot of Batman fans. I am both. That said, I get the feeling that this is going to sink like the Titanic. I’m not crazy about the Green Lantern animated series on Cartoon Network and this looks almost like the exact same animation style, which just doesn’t do it for me.

I’m a big fan of Batman TAS and Batman Beyond, two phenomenal cartoons that really delivered on animated style and Batman mythos, but this just doesn’t vibe. Batman’s voice makes it sound like a fan-made You Tube video and it seems to be leaning towards a “younger” Batman, which would fall in line with the whole DCnu revamp from last year (for the uninformed, it was a universe reboot, which made all the characters much younger…amongst other things).

Perhaps I’ll change my mind with a full trailer and get a better feel for where they’re headed, but this feels weak. Replacing Robin with Katana is a gimmicky move as well. Robin has been a staple to Batman for almost as long as the character has existed. Most people don’t know who Katana is…and it really doesn’t matter.

I hope I’m wrong about the show and it proves to perform. As of now, I have my doubts.

What say you?
