Will Smith takes on the NFL in the trailer for Concussion

Before Will Smith's Deadshot hits theaters in SUICIDE SQUAD next year, he has a different battle to fight in CONCUSSION. This story is that of Nigerion-born neuropahtologist Dr. Bennet Omalu, who was the first doctor to pinpoint a specific type of brain trauma inherent in football players. The film follows his struggle to shed light on the hazards of the game, as well as the lengths some folks in the NFL went to in order to stifle his words. Check out the first trailer for this (literally) hard-hitting drama below.

Will Smith remains one of the most likable personalities in Hollywood, but his cinematic endeavors over the years have certainly waned. While FOCUS was a nice reminder that he could inject some "cool" into the proceedings, CONCUSSION looks to show us that the man can do a lot with solid, dramatic material. It may not be as "in your face" as something like SUICIDE SQUAD, but it feels like it could be a decent film.

CONCUSSION will hit theaters on December 25, 2015.

What's with the over dramatizations lately?

First we have that cooking movie with Bradley Cooper where French people are going to kill him for opening a new restaurant in Paris. And now we have a doctor being harassed, watched, threatened, and hunted by the NFL to stop talking about the obvious concussion problems within football. There are guys who only ever played college ball that knew the risks and are suffering now, let alone professional football. Stupid. Based on a true story my ass. Capitalizing on paranoia and conspiracy theory

This already looks many times better than any of his recent endeavors. Hopefully the quality will be more like Pursuit of Happiness instead of Seven Pounds.

I'm really surprised the NFL allowed a movie like this to use their name. They didn't even allow The Replacements to use their likeness & that was a comedy. It's more understandable why they also didn't allow Oliver Stone with Any Given Sunday also, but that was because of the sex & drugs part. Former player have literally either died or committed suicide because of the subject of this movie, this movie will definitely bring controversy the closer the release date hits.

I'm guessing this is just the first trailer. Or else it's so controversial the filmmakers are hedging their bets even holding someone responsible. But having Alec Baldwin, Albert Brooks, and Paul Reiser (glad he's enjoying a bit of a comeback after Whiplash), helps.

He seems to be pulling it off quite well...
but it's damn weird to hear that Nigerian accent coming out of With Smith.

This is green because I wish it the best. Will Smith looks like he's putting in some serious effort, but it looks very over the top melodramatic. Being released on Christmas with Star Wars only in theaters for a week is a bad combination. There are worse movies, but it's overmatched.

Could be good, but it looks over the top and melodramatic. No business wants litigation of this type and of course there is pushback, but I'd be interested to know if things went down as 911 inside job conspiracy style.

No one puts a gun to these players heads to play the game. They decide to play, lets have some individual accountability rather than blaming the NFL. You chose to play, deal with consequences and stop bitching.

no one is arguing that fact. What you have to do though, is educate these players in the different kinds of head traumas that can occur. What they are discussing is a head trauma that no one had ever ever ever heard of. The NFL was denying compensation because they would say it wasn't the sport that was responsible for it. If you are going to be a cop, you run the risk of being shot or hurt. BUT you do expect your organization to support you in your road to recovery. THATS what the point of

Accountability for not only the players....but the organization who let players die by denying them medical insurance compensation due to the damage done while playing the game.

I'm surprised they weren't forced to make up a fictional league to fill in for the NFL. The NFL doesn't like to be shown in a negative light like this so I can't believe they signed off on it.

Was only a matter of time......

......that someone made a movie about this. I wish it was told from both sides though as both the players and the league have themselves to blame. I consider myself a big fan and fairly knowledgeable about the game and its culture. I've read books by some of the most respected people who have played, coached, and GM. Yes the NFL is far from perfect but the players have to take equal accountability. Even before the technology we have today people knew back in the day so to speak that playing

Yes the NFL is far from perfect but the players have to take equal accountability. Even before the technology we have today people knew back in the day so to speak that playing football is bad for you. Just like people in 70's and 80's and 90's knew smoking was bad for you. Its a harmful product but a freedom and privilege to smoke or play football. I'm 29 and over 20 years ago my parents did not want me to play football like a lot of parents.......just like smoking. You work on power lines you take that risk. But between the league and the players they have found a good medium (over a billion dollars to be correct) to give long retired players and current players a health program and money to get medical help. Just like any dangerous profession.
