First trailer for Flatliners remake reminds you not to mess with death

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The original FLATLINERS from 1990 is an odd, often dark little thriller starring then-up-and-coming talent like Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon and Kiefer Sutherland, each sporting those big, wavy, late-eighties hairdos. Now the film has gotten the remake treatment with Ellen Page, Kiersey Clemons, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev, James Norton, and Sutherland himself, and the first trailer is here for your silent judgement. But don’t stay too silent and judgmental for too long, or you’ll bring back silent and judgmental demons with you.

And here's the international version!

Like many remakes I can’t exactly see why this is being made other than to cash-in on nostalgia or a lack of better ideas. But I’m not exactly attached to the original film either. The flick is okay, I suppose, but there’s actually a possibility this remake could end up being better. The cast is solid, which is a bonus. On the other hand it could be the exact same, offering nothing new but updated visuals and haircuts. Or it could be abysmal, validating why remakes have such a bad name. I mean, it could go any way with this one.

FLATLINERS arrives September 29.
