Heartstopper renewed at Netflix for at least two more seasons of swooning and pure joy

Heartstopper, Heartstopper renewed, Netflix

My chest is about to explode as I prepare to type the words “Heartstopper renewed for at least two more seasons at Netflix.” I’m a massive fan of Alice Oseman’s Webtoon series, and Netflix’s Heartstopper is one of the most honest-to-goodness adaptations I’ve ever seen. When Heartstopper debuted on Netflix, Heartstoppers assembled to sing its praises and encourage Netflix to renew the show for more episodes. Not only did Netflix respond by giving the green light for a second season, but we’re getting a third too! Handing out multiple season renewals for a show on Netflix is rare, but weeks of the show trending on social media have sent a clear signal to the streamer to keep pumping money and effort into this joyous series. Oseman will return as writer and creator.

Heartstopper is about love, friendship, loyalty, and mental illness. It encompasses all the small stories of Nick and Charlie’s lives that make something more significant. Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor) attend the same school but never meet until the day they’re made to sit together. Sparks (or leaves) begin to fly, and soon the duo falls in love and embarks on a relationship worth aspiring to. Netflix’s Heartstopper also expands the roles of Nick and Charlie’s friends, who each have challenges to overcome throughout the series.

Getting two more seasons means fans will likely see the entire story represented on the small screen. I say this because Oseman’s webcomic ends with the conclusion of Season 5, which isn’t far off. Heartstopper may continue to thrive on Netflix, and we’ll get even more, but for now, I think it’s safe to say that Heartstopper is here to stay.

Cast members of Heartstopper are already moving on to other notable projects, such as Yasmin Finney, who is joining Ncuti Gatwa for the 60th anniversary season of Doctor Who. She is the first trans actress to star in a live-action Doctor Who presentation, and she’ll be playing Rose. That’s right, Rose. Billie Piper played the character during the David Tenant years. How is that going to work? It’s Doctor Who, so who knows?

Heartstopper renewed. I’m going to keep saying it, partially to meet my SEO quota but also because I’m just so damn excited! This news is proof that we can still have nice things and that Netflix hasn’t completely lost its way when renewing great content. If you needed a win today, this is it.
