If you heard a high-pitched scream in the wind just now, I was freaking out about Netflix‘s Heartstopper Season 2 trailer. The follow-up season to Netflix’s sensational adaptation of Alice Oseman’s coming-of-age story about teens discovering love is finally here! When Heartstopper debuted on Netflix, Heartstoppers assembled to sing its praises and encourage Netflix to renew the show for more episodes. Not only did Netflix respond by giving the green light for a second season, but we’re getting a third too! Handing out multiple season renewals for a show on Netflix is rare, but weeks of the show trending on social media have sent a clear signal to the streamer to keep pumping money and effort into this joyous series. Oseman returns as the writer and creator for the new season.

Heartstopper, Season 2, trailer, Netflix

In Netflix’s Heartstopper Season 2 trailer, Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie (Joe Locke) navigate the trials and tribulations of young love. Meanwhile, Nick struggles to come out to his peer group, and Charlie struggles with an affliction he’s yet to share with anyone. Additionally, Elle (Yasmin Finney) and Tao (William Gao) test the boundaries of their friendship, hoping it develops into something more. As hearts beat uncontrollably and butterflies circle in stomachs, Imogen (Rhea Norwood), Darcy (Kizzy Edgell), and Isaac (Tobie Donovan) encounter their own crossroads as hormones, doubts, and questions about the future loom.

Getting two more seasons means fans will likely see the entire story represented on the small screen. I say this because Oseman’s webcomic ends with the conclusion of Season 5, which isn’t far off. Heartstopper may continue to thrive on Netflix, and we’ll get even more, but for now, I think it’s safe to say that Heartstopper is here to stay.

Cast members of Heartstopper are already moving on to other notable projects, such as Yasmin Finney, who is joining Ncuti Gatwa for the 60th anniversary season of Doctor Who. She’ll be playing Rose. That’s right, Rose. Billie Piper played the character during the David Tennant years. How is that going to work? It’s Doctor Who, so who knows?

Meanwhile, Joe Locke is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe for Agatha: Coven of Chaos, while Kit Connor is slated to star in the horror mystery One of Us, and the romance project A Cuban Girl’s Guise to Tea and Tomorrow.

Heartstopper Season 2 arrives on Netflix on August 3, 2023.
