Keanu Reeves knows a little something about immortality, and he'll be taking that knowledge in a new direction for his next project which will find him co-writing a 12-issue limited comic-book series for Boom! Studios. BRZRKR is slated to be an action-packed and hyper-violet series which centers on an immortal warrior who has walked a blood-soaked path across the world for centuries, but currently does dangerous jobs for the U.S. government in exchange for the truth about his existence.

Per USA Today, Reeves met with Boom! Studios last year about creating material for live-action vehicles, and wound up pitching them on "this character who was born 80,000 years ago, half man, his father's a war god. It's a little fantasy in reality. I had this image in my head of a guy fighting through the ages because of his father's compulsion to violence [but] trapped and trying to figure it out." Reeves will be co-writing the series alongside Matt Kindt, with the series illustrated by Alessandro Vitti. You can check out a couple of covers for BRZRKR below.

Keanu Reeves said that although the Berzerker is immortal, "he has to also hide himself. So he'd pretend to die and then keep moving on." When the series begins, he's struck a bargain with U.S. authorities in return for them helping to figure out "who I am and how this has come to be and how maybe I could get released from this," but of course, there's "ulterior motives" on both sides of the deal. Reeves added that the character isn't just a grim ass-kicker, but that he's also a warm guy with a good sense of humour, although he's certainly "world-weary" due to his past. BRZRKR will explore themes such as "the nature of violence, morals, ethics [and] what side fo you choose."

Although BRZRKR will begin life as a comic series, it could easily transition to live-action, and Keanu Reeves is more than willing to play the main role. "I’d love to play Berzerker!" Reeves said. "It's a really fun story so if it's not me, hopefully someone can play it." BRZRKR will begin releasing monthly on October 7, 2020.
