While many Mike Myers fans are still waiting for the Saturday Night Live alum to announce that he and Dana Carvey are ready to "schwing" their way into the making of a WAYNE'S WORLD sequel, it's been announced that the Austin Powers and So I Married An Axe Murderer creative is set to star in and executive produce a new comedy series for Netflix. The project is being set up as a six-episode half-hour limited series, in which Myers will portray multiple characters.

“I love creating characters, and Netflix has given me a fantastic playground to play in,” said Myers.

John Lyons and Jason Weinberg will also executive produce alongside Myers, with Mackenzie Cyr and Justin Capraro-Gentuso acting as associate producers.

In the past, Myers has created many memorable characters both for his celebrated SNL tenure as well as several feature-length comedies. In 1992, Myers and his WAYNE'S WORLD co-star Dana Carvey brought their oddball air guitar-playing duo to the big screen. The film quickly became a smash hit and is now considered by many to be a classic cult comedy. Myers and Carvey re-teamed in 1993 for WAYNE'S WORLD 2, which found the Aurora misfits trying to organize a rock concert while Wayne struggled to fend off a record producer who was making eyes at his girlfriend, Cassandra Wong. In 1997, Myers introduced audiences to his Austin Powers character, a 1960s British secret agent who, after being brought out of cryofreeze, was tasked with opposing his greatest enemy in the 1990s, where his free-love social attitudes were glaringly out of place. The comedy garnered two sequels, AUSTIN POWERS: THE SPY WHO SHAGGED ME (1999) and AUSTIN POWERS: GOLDMEMBER (2002). After lending his voice to the oversized ogre Shrek for Dreamworks Animation's SHREK film franchise, Myers unleashed his Guru Pitka character for THE LOVE GURU. The film was universally panned by both fans and critics alike, which lead to something of a hibernation period for the comedic superstar.

All that being said, it would appear as if Myers is ready to bring his new ideas and characters to Netflix for a limited series. It might not be a rumored Austin Powers or Wayne's World sequel, but perhaps it's the start of a glorious comeback? We'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can catch Myers as Ray Foster in the award-winning Queen biopic BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY, which is available on Blu-ray and Digital right now.
