Danny McBride and Jody Hill are back up for L.A.P.I.

If you didn’t like any of the Danny McBride/Jody Hill joints (THE FOOT FIST WAY, “Eastbound & Down”, OBSERVE AND REPORT) then I just don’t understand you. Like, seriously, don’t talk to me. Okay, I’m just kidding. But isn’t it funny how comedy can do that? When it boils down to it, I’m a simple man that likes seeing people punched in the face in slow motion with fun music playing in the background. That’s pretty much it, and you’re either with me on that or you’re not.

So for those of us who do appreciate this gang’s brand of funny, you’ll be absolutely thrilled to know that Danny McBride and Jody Hill are re-teaming to bring us the action-comedy L.A.P.I., the debut project under McBride, Hill, and David Gordon Green’s production company Rough House Pictures. Green, who directed episodes of “Eastbound & Down” and PINEAPPLE EXPRESS (as well as this year’s YOUR HIGHNESS) will be producing with Hill directing. From Variety: “Based on a pitch from writers Michael Diliberti and Matthew Sullivan, story details are being kept under wraps apart from McBride taking on the role of a beaten-down, hardboiled P.I.”

What should prove interesting here are writers Diliberti and Sullivan. The pair had two scripts on the 2009 Black List (displaying the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood) that made them a real hot commodity in town. How their story will play in tandem with McBride and Hill’s sensibilities will be something to keep an eye on.
