Obi-Wan Kenobi: Ewan McGregor & Hayden Christensen both want a second season

The Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars series may have been conceived with the intention of having a limited one-season run but the series’ stars, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, both say that they want a second season.

Ewan McGregor recently spoke with British GQ about the series and when it came to the talk of continuing the role for another run the actor said, “I really hope we do another. If I could do one of these every now and again – I’d just be happy about it.”

Christensen also expressed interest in returning as Darth Vader for another season or even his own spinoff series, if given the opportunity. During a talk with Radio Times Christensen said, “Well, it was definitely conceived as a standalone story. But I would love to continue with this character. You know, I think there’s certainly more there to explore and I would be so excited to get to do so.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi began with a positive response from critics, registering an 84% on Rotten Tomatoes (now sitting at 75% since its premiere), but fan reaction seemed to be more mixed at the start. Some fans complained about pacing while others took more personal jabs at certain characters. The tide seemed to change as the finale began to draw closer. The last two episodes in particular, which wrapped up its limited run, were very well-received by fans and it would appear that the show stuck the landing for the most part. I know Twitter was going crazy about the imposing nature of Christensen’s Darth Vader and even McGregor admitted that he was blown away by the level of fear he was able to generate this time around. The actor said, “I got a jolt of fear that made me six years old again. I’ve never experienced that before. I just about crapped my pants.”

If the story is feasible and it makes sense for a second season to happen, I say go ahead! Star Wars seems to be thriving on the small screen and if these two actors are willing to return, I’m sure a story could be crafted that would make another run worthy of fan support.
