Orphan, Orphan: First Kill, Rossif Sutherland

Canadian actor Rossif Sutherland (Reign, Hyena Road) has been cast in ORPHAN: FIRST KILL, a prequel to Jaume Collet-Serra's 2009 horror film. Sutherland will star opposite Julia Stiles and Isabelle Fuhrman, who starred in the original film as its pint-sized killer, Esther.

According to reports, the prequel centers around Leena Klammer who orchestrates a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility. She travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family. But Leena’s new life as "Esther" comes with an unexpected wrinkle and pits her against a mother who will protect her family at any cost.

Set to direct ORPHAN: FIRST KILL is The Boy franchise helmer, William Brent Bell, who will shoot from a script written by David Coggeshall. The prequel hails from eOne and Dark Castle Entertainment, with the latter studio's Alex Mace, Hal Sadoff, and Ethan Erwin producing with James Tomlinson. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will executive produce with Jen Gorton and Josie Liang overseeing for eOne.

Rossif Sutherland, who if you haven't guessed by now is the son of beloved actor Donald Sutherland, recently starred in Brandon Cronenberg's Possessor Uncut. The film follows an agent who works for a secretive organization that uses brain-implant technology to inhabit other people's bodies – ultimately driving them to commit assassinations for high-paying clients. Sutherland joins Andrea Riseborough, Christopher Abbott, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gabrielle Graham, and Hanneke Talbot, among others, for what I hear is a supremely disturbing film that sets Brandon up as a worthy successor to his father, David Cronenberg.
